"The Changemaker Award recognizes individual achievements in advocating for a cause, working toward community growth and improvement, and/or seeking to advance peace and human dignity. Corina Crook is a vital member of the ESTAR Sanos grant team. This interdisciplinary and cross-cultural team conducts monthly community outreach programs, sharing a "be healthy" message to h-lispanic and rural populations in the Upper Cumberland Region. In this capacity, our recipient helps design and deliver educational materials in Spanish to support the program's outreach efforts. An effective communicator who consistently demonstrates the ability to engage individuals in difficult conversations, this student responds to misinformation without judgment by providing evidence-based information in an accessible way. According to her nominator, this student contributes excellent ideas for events, and strategies to convey the message to the target populations. She is passionate about improving the lives of others through "boots on the ground" interactions, lifting the target populations one conversation at a time."

It’s important to understand the difference between isolation and quarantine.
Isolation – separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick. Example: restricting and isolating to a room separated from others in the household.
Quarantine – separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick. Example: staying home and out of the public.
If you test positive for COVID-19 you should isolate for a minimum of 5 days from the start of symptoms AND after at least 24 hours of symptoms in the absence of fever-reducing medications and with improvement of other COVID-19 symptoms. The first day of symptoms is day 0.
You should also:
Wear a well-fitting mask around others for a full 10 days following the onset of symptoms.
You should avoid others at high risk for COVID complications (for example, the elderly, nursing home residents, hospitalized patients or immunocompromised) for at least 10 days. In addition, you will want to avoid places where you are unable to wear a mask (such as restaurants) for 10 days.
Testing can be considered on day 5. Antigen testing is preferred if available. If you continue to test positive, isolation should continue for 10 days.

From the Editorial Board:
"The pandemic is over" is surely what everyone wanted to hear. President Biden made the declaration in a Sunday "60 Minutes" broadcast.
But before rushing out to the ticker-tape parade, sit down. The pandemic is still raging — in the sense that a dangerous virus is infecting, sickening and killing people, mutating to survive and haunting the globe.
The pandemic has shifted — and normalcy has returned in many ways — but it is not over.
Why Biden said otherwise is obvious. The midterm elections are coming, and Americans feel an overwhelming sense of fatigue. "If you notice, no one's wearing masks," the president told journalist Scott Pelley. "Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it's changing."
No hard-and-fast rules mark the exact moment a pandemic ends. The nation and the world have come a long way since the early lockdowns and the devastating delta and omicron waves. Vaccines against the coronavirus are safe and highly effective, giving people confidence to resume many activities.
Classrooms are back in person, air travel has revived, commuter traffic is picking up. A lot of the worst misery is in the rearview mirror. But the pandemic is surely not over. The seven-day moving average of daily deaths in the United States is nearly 400 and has plateaued at this terrible level since April. The average of new daily cases is 60,000, way higher than in the spring.
Weighed down by the virus, average life expectancy of Americans fell in 2020 and 2021, the sharpest two-year decline in nearly 100 years. Covid-19 is the thirdleading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer. Long covid — those suffering a constellation of maladies after the immediate symptoms dissipate — threatens millions of people.
The natural progression of the pandemic emergency will be transformation into a more predictable pattern — endemic disease, such as the flu. But waves of new variants have been anything but predictable. The arrival of omicron was just last Thanksgiving. What's in store next? No certainty exists, except that the virus is still mutating.
Mental health MATTERS! ♥️
The pandemic has not only hurt us physically, but mentally as well. Mental health is vital to a long, fulfilling life. When we adjust our thinking towards “wellness” that encompasses what we say, what we do, what we eat, who we intersect with, who we don’t interact with, mindfulness, and so much more. Take a moment and reflect on what matters most in life. The pandemic and the problems of today are only a snippets in time. Be grateful and show love to those who most need it!
Thank you, for everything you do!

Confused on vaccine science? Let us help! ☝🏼

Misinformation and disinformation are large problems we have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. As numbers and cases begin to rise, you and your family should be presented with the best, up-to-date information. This includes when vaccine efficacy is reduced against certain variants and what we are doing to combat that! Regardless, vaccines continue to reduce severe injury and hospitalization. As newer, more effective vaccines are manufactured, the prevalence of this disease will continue to be blunted.
Join us on our upcoming LIVE STREAM to discern what information is false and what information you can trust!
