On behalf of Cumberland Endodontics, Drs. Davis, Uhles, and Arasu welcome Dr. Stephen Dapoz to partnership! Dr. Dapoz joined the practice in 2020, navigating patient care during the start of a global pandemic and the rebuilding of an office struck down by a tornado. Our patients are truly the benefactors of Dr. Dapoz's chairside compassion and technical expertise. β€œWhat is THAT thing?”

We perform every endodontic procedure under a dental microscope. These high-powered surgical devices allow us to see an incredible amount of detail, making it possible for us to identify anatomical structures and problems which may otherwise be undetectable. In addition, the high level of magnification allows us to work though a smaller opening in the tooth, helping us achieve our goal of preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

DID YOU KNOW?

What happens during a root canal? Do the roots get removed?

During a root canal procedure, a small hole is made to remove the unhealthy or infected material inside the tooth (the red part in the tooth below). This space is then thoroughly disinfected before being refilled. The tooth is then ready to be restored with a crown or filling. The root canal procedure allows us to save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted, so that you can keep your teeth - roots included!

07/29/2022

"Will I need to get a crown after my root canal?"
"Can my existing crown be saved?"

These are questions we get all the time. The answers depend on several factors, but the goal is always the same: to protect your tooth in the best way possible.

- Almost all back (premolar and molar) teeth will require a crown.

- Some front (incisor and canine) teeth require a crown, others do not - this is something to discuss with the doctor at your consultation.

- We do everything we can to save existing crowns. In most cases, a small hole is made through the crown which can be restored with a simple filling. Crowns with underlying tooth decay, leakage, or structural problems usually need to be replaced.
