๐ High school students enjoyed an incredible journey into the future of tech during Summer Scholars Program last week. Led by lecturer Lokesh Ramamoorthi, they used Oculus headsets to explore the metaverse and learn about the latest in tech innovations.๐ Students taking electrical and computer engineering courses are also learning how to design and build mobile apps, stereo power amplifiers, and digital voting machines. ๐ฑ๐
Federal grant to support development of resilient infrastructure The College of Engineering and the Climate Resilience Academy will spearhead a $2.3 million project to advance concrete technologies, part of a $19.5 million package awarded to the South Florida ClimateReady Tech Hub.
We're teaming up with industry partners to develop and test cleaner, more durable concrete, which can help lower carbon emissions while lasting longer and performing better.

For nearly 30 years, Patricia Broadhurst has been the academic advisor to hundreds of College of Engineering students. Sheโs also the daughter of a Korean War veteran.
๐บ๐ธ As a symbolic gesture ahead of her retirement, Rancell Gonzalez Sanchez, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and engineering student, honored Broadhurst by presenting her with the U.S. flag. It was a token of gratitude for her guidance in helping him and countless engineering students launch their college career.

We have our sights set on developing a pilotless, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that would shuttle people to work, restaurants, and attractions; transport accident victims to the hospital; and perform a multitude of other tasks.

The University of Miami will receive a $2.5 million grant to help advance concrete technologies for a resilient coastline, train employees to enter the green workforce, and support start-ups in technology testing and validation.
The project is part of the $504 million award made to 12 Tech Hubs across the country today.
Miami โclimate tech hubโ gets $19.5 million from feds. Focus will be reinforcing coast โWe have the biggest challenges and the best innovators โ and now we have great capital to move these programs forward and its a demonstration to the world.โ

Last week, the University of Miami hosted a National Science Foundation (NSF) project meeting led by University of South Florida , bringing together researchers from institutions across the country.
๐During a visit to the mangroves in Virginia Key, Professors Landolf Rhode-Barbarigos and Rafael Araujo explained the critical interactions between natural, human-built, and social systems in coastal areas as well as future experiments in the SUSTAIN flume. Witnessing these ecosystems up close highlights the importance of our research in creating sustainable coastal communities. ๐๐
