Welcome to our new Band Teacher Ms. Attong-Mendes, Katherine. Ms. Attong graduated from UM. President of state level of Nafme. UM Drum mayor. Played the oboe and she is excited to join our SSMS Family.
Are we ready for a great new school year??? We have great expectations and new looks for our new Year....

Symphonic and Honors Band Families,
The doors open tonight at 5:45, with pizza and concessions available. Students K-12 do not need to pay the $5 entry, regardless of where they attend school. The show will begin at 6:15.

Hello Band Parents,
You should have already received an email regarding the upcoming dates for band. We will need volunteers for some of these events.
MPA - 2 volunteers needed for each day
March 11th and March 12th - MPA - This will be a field trip to Charles Flannagan HS for the Honor and Symphonic Band only, one band will perform each day. You will need to be registered with Broward County as a volunteer in order to go on this field trip. The time is still unknown at this time, but should be during school hours.
April 28 - Jazz Band MPA, This will be a field trip too. The location and time is unknown at this time, but should be during school hours. This will be for the Jazz Band only. You will need to be registered with Broward County as a volunteer in order to go on this field trip.
CONCERTS - 5 volunteers needed for each day
February 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. - This is our Pre-MPA Concert for Honor and Symphonic Band only.
May 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. - This is our Spring Recital for all Students.
May 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. - This Concert is for Honor and Jazz Band Students only.
May 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. - This Concert is for Symphonic/Concert and Beginner students only
If you can volunteer, please email our Volunteer Coordinator [email protected] and cc: [email protected] so We can have a count and check your response.

There's lot happening and Mr. McLerran has some important updates for you. Please see below:
Chocolate sales begin this week. Your child is responsible for both inventory and money collected. Money should be turned in inside a sealed envelope with your child's name and the total written on the outside. No coins please- the envelope breaks and we can't reconcile your sales with all the loose change in the drop-box. Students can get additional boxes as they sell out of inventory and settle up.
There is a music pass off due this Friday for Honors and Symphonic bands.
Some students still owe forms and final payment for the trip on the 19th. Both are due this Friday, the 7th.
Here is the before/after school sectional schedule for the week of March 2-6. Sectionals are mandatory and for a grade. If students cannot make it to theirs they are responsible for letting Mr. McLerran know, and to plan to join another sectional for their band.

4:00-5:00= HB Flute/Oboe
Lastly, here are some updates to concert dates for the remainder of the school year:
February 26= Pre MPA Concert, 6:00-7:00 pm, Cafeteria, Honor and Symphonic Band only
-March 11-12= MPA Contest, TBA, Charles Flannagan HS, Honor and Symphonic Band only (one each day)
-April 24-25= 7th/8th Solo and Ensemble, TBA, Ramblewood

-May 2= 6th grade Solo and Ensemble, 9:00-3:00, SSMS
-May 6= Spring Recital, 6:00-7:00, Cafeteria, All students
-May 18= Spring Concert, 6:00-7:00, Cafeteria, Honor and Jazz band
-May 20= Spring Concert, 6:00-7:00, Cafeteria, Symphonic/Concert and Beginners

Today’s Music Boosters meeting is cancelled, due to scheduling conflicts. Our next meeting will be on Monday, 2/24, at 6:15pm. Information regarding trips, concerts, fundraisers, and events happening between now and then will be shared by email, in addition to anything Ms. Knibb and Mr. McLerran give the students. Please be sure to read them to stay up to date.

Doors for all performances will open at 6pm, with shows starting promptly at 6:30. Dinner will be available, consisting of baked ziti, salad, and bread. $10 per person includes entry and dinner. Please pre-order so we know how much food to purchase. Fill out the form below and return to Mr. McLerran or Ms. Knibb with payment by Thursday, 12/12. Any questions, email [email protected]. Thank you. If you do not wish to eat, it's just $5 entry which can be paid at the door or ahead of time. If paying ahead of time, simply use the form already provided and indicate entry only.
