James Pumpkin Patch - Corning, IA

Pumpkins are in the ground!! 🌱🎃 Praying they’ll be perfect in time for fall! 🍂☀️

Gaaaahhhh!! 😣 It always seems like we have to bring you not-so-great news.

As everyone knows growing ANYTHING is complete trial and error. I’ve tried to grow - and have killed - herbs at least 5 times over the years. So it’s a good thing *I’m* not the one planting the pumpkins 😝 That’s why Todd handles that part of things, phew! But it’s a new experience for him too.

We are calling the first year Beginner’s Luck 🍀 It was a HUGE success. We had more pumpkins than we knew what to do with, so many excited people, and perfect weather! I’m going with the fact it was my ‘winging it’ attitude since Todd’s a huge planner 🤣

Last year was a total bust. The heat ☀️, dry conditions, and bugs 🐛 were all out of our control.

That brings us to this year…. we’re not sure what happened 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 The vines looked nice and green 🌱. The rain 🌧️ was plentiful, but the pumpkins apparently didn’t pollinate well after blooming. This is where that trial and error comes in. We have been looking over our calendars, contacting food trucks, planning games and activities for our Day at the Patch 🎃🎃 But with much regret, we’re not going to be able to have it again this year. 😢

We want to express our appreciation for everyone that has reached out to us regarding field trips, asking us to be at events with our pumpkins, and making sure we let you know when they’re ready so you can buy some! Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

Farming is trial and error, running a business is trial and error. That’s just life. We’re still not giving up 💪🏼 We’re going to sell what we have this year (unfortunately it won’t be much), and try again next year. 😊 And because fall is my absolute favorite time of year 🍁🍂🥰 I keep telling Todd that we’re going to make this work one way or another! 😜

Although the weather lately might have us thinking of fall 🍁🍂, we still have a couple months to go. Hoping the weather can continue to cooperate for a good pumpkin harvest 🎃🌾

Although the rain missed us by just inches this weekend 🥺 We’re still working hard on getting those pumpkins to grow!! 🌱🎃

We are very saddened to announce that we have to cancel our Day at the Patch events this fall and any pumpkin picking throughout the season. 😔 Due to high heat, lack of rain, and lots of bugs, our pumpkins didn’t grow as plentiful as we had hoped.

We’ll have a trailer that we’re bringing to Main Street Corning Market in the Park on Saturday, September 10th to purchase from there. But once those are gone, that’s all we’re going to have this year. We’ll post pictures as it gets closer. (Frosting, Inc.- Walnut, IA will also be there with goodies 🧁).

We’re all very disappointed with this news, but it’s out of our control. And unfortunately we’re not the only ones in the area having this issue.

BUT…. that doesn’t mean we’re scrapping the whole idea!! 😉 We WILL be back next fall 🍁🍂 with activities 🚜, pumpkins 🎃 (pending weather conditions 🙄), and lots of fun stuff!! 😆

🚚Calling all Food Trucks🚚

Last year we had a ‘Day at the Patch’ with pumpkin 🎃 picking, games, and FUN!! 🥳 This year we are extending it to ⭐️FOUR⭐️ days!!!!

We are looking for a food truck to set up each day. It can be the same food truck for all four days, or a different one each day. There is NO set up fee!

The dates we have scheduled are:
▪️Saturday, October 15, 11am-5pm
▪️Sunday, October 16, 11am-5pm
▪️Saturday, October 22, 11am-5pm
▪️Sunday, October 23, 11am-5pm

Everyone was busy yesterday weeding, making it look like an actual pumpkin patch 🎃 Who’s getting excited for fall?!?! 🍁🍂😜

I had the opportunity last weekend to talk to some kids about pumpkin planting! 🎃🌱

And a special thank you to Wetzel Honey Farm for letting their bees 🐝 pollinate!

It’s been a week but they’re already sprouting 😊🌱🎃

This was my first time that I was able to help, except regular tennis shoes 👟 aren’t going to cut it, they were caked in mud!! 😬

Todd and Tyler were busy 💦 while Ethan was just as busy tending to his livestock across the road 🐄🐑

And Todd of course loved my shirt… 😉

Aside from that pesky wind 🙄 The weather cooperated enough to finally get pumpkins planted!! 🎃🌱

We have some fun activities planned for the fall 🍁🍂
