Rachel and her team (that includes her daughter Ryane!) walked 60 miles to raise money for breast cancer research. J.M. Del Amo Fashion Center’s Chase Bank
Rebuilt and Now Open

TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA – After sustaining irreparable fire damage in 2019, Chase Bank at the Del Amo Fashion Center is now rebuilt and open for business.

J.M. Stitt Construction, Inc. (JMSCI) was selected to rebuild the Chase Bank after a car crashed into the branch at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Carson Street in August 2019.

According to the Daily Breeze’s interview with then Torrance Assistant Fire Chief Steve Treskes, the fire was “active for about three to four hours.” Also, per the Daily Breeze, “’There (are) some unique features to this building. ‘Assistant Fire Chief Jon Henderson told KTLA-TV… ‘It had a rubberized roof, and it had a façade around it that was made of combustible metal, so it provided for a very challenging firefight.’” The building also did not have a fire sprinkler system.

Construction broke ground in March of 2021 during the height of Covid 19 shutdowns and mandates. This alone presented a variety of challenges, including but not limited to material and equipment shortages.

The project was redesigned for a structural steel shell in lieu of wood framing as originally planned. This was due to the fluctuating lumber costs as well as lumber shortages nationwide. A new fire suppression system was designed and installed per Los Angeles County Fire requirements. The new building design reflected a much larger footprint with feature areas above and beyond a standard prototypical Chase branch layout.

JMSCI is proud to have completed this project in a high-profile location while working alongside the Simon Group at the Del Amo Fashion Center. JMSCI has successfully completed 50+ projects with JP Morgan Chase/ CBRE Management over the past number of years and is currently under construction on several other JPMC projects.

JM Stitt takes extreme joy in getting employees together to socialize and interact outside of the daily work flow. We are excited to welcome two new faces to the J.M. Stitt Construction, Inc headquarters: Joseph Olivarez and Rachel Sepulveda!

Joseph made the transition to the office in July as Project Manager after four years of working in the field for J.M. Stitt as a jobsite superintendent. As superintendent, we came to depend on Joseph to run several of our large, high-profile projects, and we are confident he’ll be able to take on the management side of those projects with the same level of success.

We hired on Rachel in July as a Project Manager Assistant, helping ensure that our growing list of jobs run as smoothly as possible. She comes to us with over 20 years of experience in the world of commercial construction, wearing many different hats along the way. We are so grateful to have her joining our team and for all the construction knowledge that she brings along with her.
