EAA Chapter 494
Chapter 494 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), based at Corona Airport in Corona, CA. Meetings 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at 10am.
Chapter meetings are held every third Saturday of the month, while chapter work days are held every first and third Saturday. Come by hangar #15 at 1947 Aviation Dr. in Corona, CA at 10:00 am if you want to see what our chapter is up to. Our chapter is currently very active as we work to complete our Pietenpol Air Camper, and many of our members are building or flying their own homebuilts as well.

Provided rides for 24 kids at the Flabob Airport and Red Barn today. Thanks for support from the Airport, Red Barn, some EAA Chapter 1 members and the 8 pilots who donated their time and planes to the effort.
We waited out the overcast sky yesterday and flew about 15 kids on Young Eagle flights. Thank you to the attendees for your patience, we don’t control the weather. Thanks also to all the pilots and ground crew personnel for volunteering your time.

Pretty productive Saturday between rain storms.
We got the recently acquired Corben Jr Ace wings reinstalled. Will do a little TLC then it will be put up for sale. Also we were able to get the Pietenpol started and do some taxi testing, checking out recent changes to the landing gear, tail wheel, and rudder pedal assemblies. All went well and the Piet is nearing completion and will also be put up for sale. Thanks to all the EAA members that came out to help and local Corona Airport regulars, Paul, Mike, and Lou.

Just when you think you know someone you discover their alter-ego. Our chapter president, Shawn Hart, moonlights as the Grinch at City of Corona’s Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration.
Happening today until 3pm. Planes and Cars on display at the Corona Airport. Also a toy drive sponsored by Collective Car Culture. Beautiful Weather.
Sunday 12/3 at the Corona Airport, Collective Car Culture is sponsoring a Christmas Toy Drive. From 11 to 3 Planes and Cars will be on display along with food vendors, raffle prizes, and a bounce house. EAA Ch494 will also have shirts and calendars available. Bring the family.

Last nights Social Gathering at the EAA/Mark’s hangar was well attended. We ate grilled burgers and dogs along with some fruit and desserts brought by attendees. Shawn shared info and pictures from the gyro fly-in at El mirage. We do this on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6pm. Come join us next month on 11/9.
More young people introduced to EAA and aviation via our flight simulator and display at the Corona Norco Unified School District Career Technical Education Expo held today at the JFK Middle College High School.
Our next Young Eagle Flight Event is tentatively scheduled for mid Nov. Check back here soon for further details and how to register.
Alcoa D**e Project update from the city. Looks the new entrance road to the airport will be open in November.
2 Aviation related events this weekend. One is the Ken Brock Freedom Fly-in at the El Mirage Lake Bed, Fri-Sun. This is hosted by the Popular Rotorcraft Association. Because of recent rains much of the lakebed is closed so be sure to read the website for information on access and directions.

The other event is a car/plane exhibit at the Corona airport on Sunday morning. Hosted by Collective Car Culture, this event will have raffle prizes and vendors. See the attached flyer.

Open mic nite at our monthly social. We heard some interesting stories from Mark, Chuck, and Charles. Charles told us about his interest in airplanes, taking a Young Eagles flight and wanting to become a pilot.
While we listened to stories and ate pizza a rocket launched from Vandenberg AFB and later the ISS flew over. Mark your calendar for our next social gathering on Oct 12.

EAA Young Eagles Flight (Corona Airport) Several Young Eagles experiencing a memorable flight at Corona Airport in Southern California.
Here’s a link for the Prado Dam water level data. It’s not a threat to the airport until it gets to about 513’.
It’s been reported that the Army Corps of Engineers plan to hold the level at 505’ during this storm but of course that is subject to change.

Today we performed engine run #2 on the Pietenpol including taxiing under its own power.
Making it move helped us find some things that need correcting and adjusting. Baby steps toward 1st flight.
