Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the concept of working from home become the new normal. Companies were forced to adapt to remote work arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of their employees. As a result, the traditional office setting was replaced by a more flexible and adaptable work environment. Four years later, employees are being called to return to the office, which has been a difficult transition for many employees. The sudden shift from a remote work environment to a traditional office setting has posed various challenges, both personally and professionally.

Just finished my speech about Authenticity and Self-Awareness in Leadership for the Texas Senior Corps Conference tomorrow and I am kinda excited about it!!! I really hope the conference attendees enjoy it and take receive some valuable take aways. 🙏

I know I am with the jokes on social media, but one thing I do not joke about is the need for more authentic and self-aware leaders in the workplace. It is my personal and professional mission to spread awareness and advocate for it every chance that I get. 🏁

No one can be a great leader unless they genuinely care about everyone on your team. I can’t stress this enough because no leader can achieve any form of success without their team; when you show your team that you GENUINELY care about them professionally and personally, people will be more open to you as a person and as their leader.

So, how can you build a relationship with your team?

According to Susan Heathfield, start with some common courtesy. For example, saying good morning, thank you. Asking people how their weekend turned out. Whether Rebecca won her soccer match. If John is feeling better. How’re the kids? Practicing simple courtesy will help you build a strong relationship with your team; some leaders take these things for granted, but believe me; your employees will feel truly valued and will go over and beyond the call of duty to help their leader and, by extension, their organization achieves its goals and purpose.
