Day 2 of

Complacency in our spiritual life as well as our marital life can lead us to a point of taking God and our spouse for granted. When we do this, we risk losing our intentionality of truly ‘feeding’ our relationship. We often see ‘emotional starvation’ in relationships when one or both spouses grow apathetic and stop meeting each other’s needs. We see this same type of apathy in individuals who take their faith for granted
and who give little effort in growing their relationship with Christ. This second habit calls us to be intentional in our relationship with God and our spouse so as to not take either for granted.

Today is the Memorial of St. Josephine Bakhita (1869 - 1947), who was sold into slavery as a child but eventually she was freed and joined religious life as a young woman. It also is the World Day of Prayer Against Human Trafficking, which Saint Bakhita is patron of human-trafficking survivors. On this day, we offer the following prayer:

St. Josephine Bakhita, you were sold into slavery as a child
and endured untold hardship and suffering.

Once liberated from your physical enslavement,
you found true redemption in your encounter with Christ and his Church.

O St. Bakhita, assist all those who are trapped in a state of slavery;
Intercede with God on their behalf so that they will be released
from their chains of captivity.

Those whom man enslaves, let God set free.

Provide comfort to survivors of slavery and
let them look to you as an example of hope and faith.

Help all survivors find healing from their wounds.

We ask for your prayers and intercessions for those enslaved among us. Amen.

National Marriage Week is observed from February 7-14 and is an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family.

This year's theme, "Marriage...one flesh, given and received," highlights the one-flesh union of husband and wife that is willed by God.

It also indicates the personal self-gift of each spouse, one to the other.

These concepts point to Christ who gives Himself under the appearance of bread and wine — as real flesh and blood.

This event commemorates the Supreme Court’s tragic Roe v. Wade decision that imposed legal abortion on Texas and the entire nation throughout all nine months of pregnancy and celebrates the overturning of the terrible precedent set in 1973 … let’s continue the work of turning the tide against this injustice.

Show our elected officials, the media, and the Supreme Court that Texas is pro-life!

Today we mark the official end to the Christmas Season with the celebration of the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by His cousin John the Baptist.

Although Jesus had no need to be baptized, He shows us the importance of the Sacrament of Baptism through His obedience in receiving His. The Sacrament of Baptism is a reminder of our own baptism, which allows us to participate in Jesus’ victory over sin and death.

The Gospel for today tells us,

“After Jesus was baptized,
he came up from the water and behold,
the heavens were opened for him,
and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove
and coming upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens, saying,
‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’”

Matthew 3: 16-17

How many times have we said the words "Hail Mary, Full of grace"?
Every time we pray the Rosary, we utter the words, at Church on a Sunday - for centuries! Today we hear the same words as the Archangel says them for the first time to the Virgin Mary. They are also the words that share with us the fullness of the mystery of God’s grace realized in Holy Mary.
Join with us as we pray:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
