CCPOA general meeting at noon Monday September 23
Please take a moment today and remember our fallen brother, Luther B. Prather and his family in your thoughts and prayers as today marks the one hundred and five year anniversary of Luther's End-of-Watch. Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Luther's honor. Luther was the second CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Luther, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.
Luther B. Prather – September 14, 1919
Officer Prater was killed in the aftermath of a hurricane that struck the
Texas Gulf Coast. He drowned as he and other officers attempted to rescue
citizens. Officer Prater was buried in a mass grave with other citizens who
were killed in the storm. The total deaths were estimated at 1,000 people.
Officer Prater was survived by his wife.

Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Danny's honor. Danny was the ninth CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Danny, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.
Joseph Daniel Bock – September 9, 1987
Sgt. Danny Bock was attempting to stop a speeding vehicle. The driver refused to yield as Bock pursued for approximately 10 miles. Unknown to Officer Bock, the suspect had just been involved in a burglary. Bock confronted the suspect and a struggle ensued. The suspect took officer Bock's service revolved and shot him twice. Bock was survived by his wife and two daughters.

Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in John's honor. John was the seventh CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for John, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.
John William Sartain – August 20, 1971
On August 19, 1971, at approximately 11 p.m., Officer John Sartain and his partner Gilbert Lazo were walking to their patrol unit to begin their tour of duty. A 16 year old sniper shot John in the head. John was pronounced dead at 8:50 a.m. of August 20, 1971. Sartain was survived by his wife and daughter.

Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Trace's honor. Trace is the fifteenth CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Trace, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.
Trace J. Weaver – August 7, 2023
On August 7, 2023, retired Lieutenant Trace Weaver succumbed to complications related to the injuries he sustained in the line of duty. While serving as a Patrol Shift Supervisor on May 12, 1997, Lieutenant Trace Weaver responded to an emergency call and was exposed to a dangerous chemical. Lt. Weaver retired from the department on June 30, 2003. Lt. Weaver joined the department on August 24, 1981, after serving in the United States Army. Lt. Weaver is survived by his wife of 40 years, and two sons.
