To***co (Nicotiana spp.) is a sacred herb that attracts benevolent, loving spirits while also protecting against negative energy and malevolent spirits. Growing your own to***co can be easy, fun, and very rewarding when you start working with the plant on deeper levels. Often my to***co plants "perennialize" when they are happy with their growing location, and persist for several seasons; freely sharing their sticky leaves and rapturous blooms that emit subtle-to-strong fragrances as night falls...

Most people have heard of echinacea AKA prairie coneflower and many folks have used a preparation of the roots as tea, tincture or capsules for immune support.
But did you know that herbalists consider the whole plant to have healing properties not just the parts below the soil?

Stressed? (Who isn’t?) Feeling anxious? (Who, me?) Maybe a little sleep deprived? (*YAWN*) These (and several others) are all issues you might find relief from by addressing them with this comely herb called Valerian. [Note: be sure to research ANY herb thoroughly before trying it for cautions and contraindications. In some people, Valerian acts as a stimulant not a relaxant.] Be prepared to enjoy its lovely and delicate white spring blooms, sweetly fragrant, and later in the fall when you dig up the roots for tea or tincture, another earthy-sweet scent. The funky-skunky aroma Valerian is sometimes maligned for only shows up after the root dries. Also, as it seeds prolifically, don’t be shocked if it spreads around the garden. You have been warned!

Wild onions blooming near my place, so pretty and ethereal!
[A FEW DAYS LATER…]
Welllll, after enjoying the beauty of these long-blooming lovely white flowers over several days my botanist’s brain finally started working and I realized these weren’t wild onions at all! They actually looked more like White Brodiaea lilies! Which I hadn’t properly encountered before so that’s my excuse for not recognizing them originally.
The best part is finding out one of their common names is “Fool’s Onion”! Ha ha, definitely fooled this old fool, LOL!

How would you like to grow a perennial celery? Meet my friend Lovage, a deliciously spicy celery relative in the Carrot/Apiaceae Family! I’ve grown many lovage plants but none of them have risen taller than me so I guess this one’s pretty happy! Learn more about lovage here:

Poppies are a very versatile medicinal herb, rich with symbolism and meaning. While more popularly (and for some, controversially) worn by the British to honor their war dead and living veterans, they are also becoming a popular Memorial Day symbol here in the US as well. Different colored poppies can be worn to support different soldiers as we recognize the contributions of all of our warriors to the cause of peace.

The meaning behind the red, purple, white and black poppies Red Poppies have become synonymous with Remembrance Day but some people chose to wear white, purple or black ones
