An update from our WAVMA aquarium caretaker @docszoo223, class of 2027.

"I am delighted to share a final update of the 2023-2024 year on our upgraded WAVMA aquarium with you.

The journey of upgrading our aquarium has been a labor of love, bringing us and our aquatic friends into a more harmonious balance. Just like in any community, our tank thrives on diversity and unity, each member adding their unique charm. Without further ado, let me reintroduce you to the wonderful cast of characters in our aquarium who are here to bring you joy and relaxation before finals (and will miss you afterward)!

Stephanie the Bolivian Ram (Mikrogeophagus altispinosus)
This spirited and charismatic fish is the personality of the aquarium. Stephanie insists on order and makes sure everyone knows it. If you approach the aquarium, she’ll swim up to greet you and proudly show off her fine work, keeping all the other fish in check.

The Golden Mystery Snail (Pomacea bridgesii)
This stunning and diligent snail is the friendly leader of the aquarium. She tirelessly glides around, keeping things clean and running smoothly, seldom taking a moment to rest. Her vibrant presence is a testament to dedication and hard work.

The Strawberry Rasbora (Boraras naevus)
This tiny, colorful fish is like an exchange student from Asia in a predominantly South American ecosystem. She fits right in, often schooling with the larger tetras, adding a splash of color and diversity to our tank.

The Rummynose Tetras (Hemigrammus rhodostomus)
These resilient fish have been part of our aquarium long before I had the pleasure of working with it. They’ve thrived despite challenges, although they could use a bit of slimming down. Stephanie often chases them off to ensure everyone gets their share of food.

The Neon Tetras (Paracheirodon innesi)
Bright and cheerful, these fish love nothing more than swimming together and showing off their vibrant colors. A bit on the chunky side, they add a delight

We're honored to have this beautiful tsuru (origami crane) display from @aavmpatoregonstate in the Magruder Hall atrium in celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Month. Over the last few months @aavmpatoregonstate had tsuru supplies and instructions available here in the Magruder Hall atrium for anyone to fold and contribute to the display as symbols of hope and peace. #apida #tsuru #origami #papercrane #aavmp #peace #hope
