The calendar is moving me fast. Trying to slow it down. This is a snippet of a table top in the studio where I put what I find along the way. Tune: Frolic • Jake Xerxes Fussell
The pollinator box is a nesting site for the female Mason Bee. It’s a handmade object intended to act it’s function well, while also captivating the human eye. When we intervene with nature, its critical we consider the cause and effect in what we do. That is why the box is designed around a removable tray system, ensuring the nesting sites can be cleaned and rotated each season with ease. This is essential while we strive to assist these vital pollinators. Much of the natural habit for these insects have been removed due to urbanization, excessive hardscaping, and a move towards a highly manicured landscape. The Mason Bee and other solitary bees are incredibly docile creatures and are more interested in the blooming vegetation that they are pollinating then you. During this time of year, I like to stand in a blooming cherry or pear tree and be within the hum and buzz. I encourage you to do the same.
