The Marys River Masonic Lodge No 221 have been generous supporters of BCF for many years. This year they opened up another scholarship in honor of longtime lodge member William E. McCoy III. Freemasonry is the oldest and the largest fraternal order in the world. It is a fraternity that has spread around the globe based on the shared principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. Freemasons are dedicated to serving their families, communities, and countries, while striving to improve themselves through a system of moral teachings. Since 1958, they have been striving to better the Corvallis community. Freemasons have long believed in the vital importance of an educated populace and promoted the availability of public education for all who wish it. That belief was one of the driving forces in their creation of 2 scholarship funds at BCF. The Godfrey Music Scholarshop was established in 2014. During Bret’s 36 years of teaching choir for the Corvallis School District he recognized the financial needs of some students wanting to pursue studies in music. He noticed that due to lack of financial resources many students were unable to purchase or rent an instrument to be in the school’s band, but because of their love for music would choose to be in choir instead. Recognizing that these same students may not have the resources to pursue studies in music, Bret chose to establish the Godfrey Music Scholarship Endowment. The purpose of the Fund is to award scholarships to Benton County high school seniors who will be attending Oregon State University to study music, with choral or piano studies preference.
