Yesterday, BCF was honored to award scholarships at Western Oregon University at the Oregon State University Army ROTC graduation ceremony. BCF President & CEO Chris Quaka represented BCF and former U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Tom Wirth presented awards to local ROTC students. Did you know that BCF holds 32 ROTC scholarship funds? BCF kicked off its 5th Generous Change Cohort training today with nonprofit leaders from Art & Craft Creativespace: Maxtivity, Corvallis Public Schools Foundation, The Arts Center - Corvallis, OR, SouthSide Youth Outreach, Inc., Corvallis Sister Cities Association - Uzhhorod, & Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers. On October 24, 2023, the Corvallis Community Band presented our Children's Educational Concert to 321 appreciative, area, fourth graders at the LaSells Stewart Center at OSU. They were accompanied by 93 teachers and chaperons. Children came from King’s Valley Charter School, Philomath Elementary, North Albany Elementary, Albany Christian School, Ashbrook Independent School, Zion Lutheran Elementary School, and Adams, Corvallis, 509-J.

Slides were projected onto a screen, while the Band played music inspired by the topics of Outer Space and Oregon History, which are two topics from the fourth grade curriculum. Twice, we were joined by dancers from the Willamette Apprentice Ballet. One of our members lead the children in a sing-a-long to Oh Susanna. The finale was an introduction to all the instruments of the band followed by a rousing rendition of Teddy Bear’s Picnic. A participant said, “The excitement of the hundreds of children fill this hall with joy.”

BCF's Scholarship application deadline has been extended for the Joel R. Friend Scholarship which will award $7,500 and available to International students from Thailand or Taiwan enrolled at Oregon State University.
