To continue my pictures to celebrate Palm Springs modernism week, here is a house that is made famous by a movie. The Rose House designed by modernist architect James Speyer, a student of Mies van der Rohe  located in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois.

Since it's Modernism week in Palm Springs CA, here is another photo of a mid century house in LA by architect Pierra Koenig. It's the Stahl House, case study 22. I love how it floats over the city!

Celebrating modernism week, an annual event in Palm Springs here are a couple of pictures of the Frey House

I really like this space, the high ceilings and the unique lighting in this space. The exposed brick walls and the simplicity of the wood cabinetry work together to create a functional, industrial yet warm space.

I love this floating reclaimed lumber vanity against the old stone wall in this bath.

This classic symmetrical cabinet has a furniture feel to it with the side panels widened to appear as legs.

2 minute sketch concept of the house on the second picture re- imagined in a mid-century style. I think just by changing the roof and increasing the overhang, it would already make a big difference, and if we'd make the ceiling vaulted and added windows following the roof line would transform the interior also.

Your thoughts?

I was involved in the design, fabrication and installation of the interior renovation of the old Mountain Mall in Montana. The new food hall now christened Vista Hall is a radical transformation from the old enclosed original space into a new modern environment.

This is one of the sketches for a spa retreat concept in Desert Hot Springs CA. The inspiration came from visiting the Alhambra in Spain.

Built in home office in an open concept design. This is on the other side of the kitchen tucked in the corner next to the dining area.

Yes this first picture is an old photo of LAX, but so you know what style it is? It's called Googie.

It is kind of a Jetsons style for a good reason. According to Wikipedia:

Form of post-modern architecture style, a subdivision of futurist architecture

Googie architecture is a type of futurist architecture influenced by car culture, jets, the Space Age, and the Atomic Age. It originated in Southern California with the Streamline Moderne architecture of the 1930s, and was popular nationwide from roughly 1945 to the early 1970s.

Thoughts?

We opted using IKEA cabinets in this kitchen. They had the glass doors in frosted glass in a metal frame for a more modern, contemporary look we were looking for.

Start the new year fresh. Leave the old behind, and set new goals for 2021.

The pictures here depict just this. Old grungy living room from the 80's transformed into a beautiful open living area, with a new kitchen, downlit rock feature wall, and hardwood flooring.

We used this pendants in a reno. I always thought they looked like Xmas decorations.

RGB LED lights in the backlit cabinets let you set it the mood, including Christmas colors.

Here are a few shots of a stone feature wall that we built in one of our projects. The first pic shows the finished wall with down lights, the second pic shows the loose individual pieces, and the last one is no downlights.

Great Room with the kitchen in the foreground. Wide plank hardwood floors throughout. The kitchen island's contrasting color stands out next to the white perimeter cabinetry. The kitchen does have a bit of a country feel to it with the traditional pulls and style of range hood.

Thoughts?

Traditional yet contemporary bathroom with lots of natural light, and light color finishes featuring a free standing tub and ceiling height shower enclosure. The full size framed mirror helps in increasing the size of the space.
