Same hair, same client, same day... What’s the difference between the two? Lighting. The photo on the left was taken using natural lighting, the right using artificial ring lighting.

Which is true to tone? They both are. Every color (especially blondes) will look different in different lighting. Lower lighting, diffused indoor light and overcast days will show tones darker and less vibrant. Brighter artificial light and direct outdoor lighting will show tones brighter and lighter. Most of the hair pics you see online are enhanced by using studio lighting and diffusers to get the artistic finish we hair stylist so love to post, meaning the clients hair doesn’t look exactly like that every day.

So next time you are swiping through the gram and Pinterest for your next color, remember that your color will look different in different lighting situations and to keep that into consideration.
