HI, DID YOU ALSO KNOW THAT? The students in the Spring 2021 FASH A225 Media, Events, Promotions class spent most of the semester doing behind the scenes work and creating the graphic marketing materials, press release, and event promotions for the 2021 Judith Hendler Design Competition Exhibition. Some of the students volunteered at the opening day exhibition at the Huntington Beach Art Center in order to record the awards show on Instagram Live, post social media content, collect photographs, and help with the Coast Collective Pop-Up Sale. They even got a chance to create social media content for the OCC Fashion Instagram page. Yes! That is right! Some of the social media posts on our Instagram page were made by students in this class. We would like to give a big thank you to all the students in the FASH A225 Media, Events, Promotions class for all the work they have done this semester! Congratulations to the group of three students’ work that the Huntington Beach Art Center chose as the event’s theme artwork for the banner, showcard, flier, and program schedule designs and press release information. Congratulations to the group of three students that were chosen for the scholarship by Judith Hendler after presenting the work they did this semester to her. Do not forget to enroll in FASH A225 Media, Events, Promotions next spring 2022 semester. This class focuses on social media marketing, event planning, and public relations. Introducing OCC Fashion apparel construction and fashion design student, Imane Gehring, who worked hard on her cocoon cloak garment design submission for Judith Hendler’s Design Competition this year. Imane’s inspiration for this design creation is based on a combination of the marbled white butterfly and the kaftan, a traditional tunic-like garment from Imane’s Moroccan cultural background. Her sustainability process for her design included using second hand black and white lace knit fabric donated by the OCC Fashion Department with a pattern similar to the marbled white butterfly’s appearance. Imane crocheted yarn onto the edge of the finished garment’s neckline. We wish Imane luck in the future at the Judith Hendler Design Exhibition Opening Ceremony at the Huntington Beach Art Center on May 1st. video credit: @imane_imy_gh Don’t forget to reserve your spot for Judith Hendler Design Exhibition Dates at: https://www.huntingtonbeachartcenter.org/judith-hendler-design-exhibition-reservations.html #marbledwhitebutterfly #kaftan #judithhendler #hbartcenter #occfashion #occ #design #fashion #student #cocooncloak #sewing #sustainability #morocco #art #creative #garment #butterfly #fabric #orangecoastcollege

SELF CARE WEEK: @salsalyssa shares tips and tricks for 🍯DIY SUGAR WAXING🍯 ⭐️What you’ll need: -Fabric Strips (cut up an old t-shirt) -Pot and Stir Spoon -Butter Knife -Glass Jar or Measuring Cup -1/4 cup hand-squeezed lemon juice -1/4 cup water -2 cups granulated sugar ⭐️Preparation: -Stir up ingredients; Boil until it starts to turn a golden color (7-10 minutes) -Remove from stove; pour into glass container to let cool (Wait AT LEAST 45 MINUTES for it to cool or you WILL burn yourself!) ⭐️Application: -BABY POWDER! This works wonders to dry the surface of your skin for an easier stick. Apply your powder before your wax, and re-apply as needed. -Using a soft butter knife, apply the wax in the OPPOSITE direction of your hair growth -Place a fabric strip over the applied wax and rub the surface for a few seconds. (This heats up the wax, helping it soak into the pores for a more effective hair removal) -Peel the strip, just like ripping off a band-aid, but this time in the SAME direction of your hair growth -For my sensitive skin friends 🧖🏽‍♀️ALOE is your friend! ⭐️Cleanup: -Your wax is water soluble! Soak your wax container and applicator knife with hot water and soap (this may take a couple hours, but it dissolves eventually, I promise!) #quarantineselfcare #selfcaretips
