MEET THE CAST of IN THE NEXT ROOM:

Angel Correa, a staple of the Costa Mesa Playhouse stage (and the Board Secretary) fills in as Leo Irving for the last weekend of the run.

“What drew you to audition for this production?”
It’s a very funny and unique story that you don’t see in theater very often.

“What are you most excited about, in terms of your role?”
Uninhibited passion.

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”
Oh. Oh? Oh!

IN THE NEXT ROOM or the vi****or play runs September 13 - October 6. Tickets now available. ⬆️ link in bio!

MEET THE CAST of IN THE NEXT ROOM:

Yasmine (Truth) Reid is a recent graduate from Vanguard University and makes her first appearance at Costa Mesa Playhouse.

“What drew you to audition for this production?” I was drawn to Elizabeth’s story in the play: what the character is going through and how it’s impacting her and her faith.

“What drew you to audition for this production?” I’m most excited about showcasing the moments where Elizabeth is still able to find  joy or a reason to smile in the midst of her grief.

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”
Touching, funny, raw.

This exciting first play by the author of August: Osage County premiered at Chicago’s Steppenwolf before going on to acclaimed productions in London and New York. Hired by the dissolute Smith family to murder the matriarch for insurance money, Killer Joe takes the daughter to bed as a retainer against his final payoff, which sets in motion a bloody aftermath as the “hit man” meets his match.

NOTE: Due to the subject matter, it is advised all actors familiarize themselves with the play to understand the physical demands of these roles.

Roles Available:

Chris Smith (M - 20s) Just trying to make it as a low-level drug pusher; thinks he's ten steps ahead when he's really five behind; hard exterior, but too soft for this world.

Dottie Smith (F - 20s) The family innocent; mentally still a child, but more aware than she lets on. (NOTE: This role requires partial nudity.)

Sharla Smith (F - 30s) Chris and Dottie's stepmother; a fiery striver, she's never afraid to use her body or s*xuality to move up the food chain. (NOTE: This role will require a simulated s*x act.)

The roles of Ansel Smith and Joe have been cast.

MEET THE CAST of IN THE NEXT ROOM:

Mark Coyan returns to the Costa Mesa Playhouse stage, having appeared in last season’s production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane.

“What drew you to audition for this production?”
I was the reader for auditions of the production at South Coast Repertory back in 2010 and fell in love with the script. I knew back then that if the show was ever produced at another theater, I wanted to be involved with it.

“What are you most excited about, in terms of your role”
The journey that a logical, inquisitive man of science goes on to learn how to experience, express and embrace his emotional side.

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”: Hysteria curing vi****ors

09/02/2024

Brooke Lewis Cruz is glad to be back at Costa Mesa Playhouse, having last been seen in RENT and Our Town.

“What drew you to audition for this production?”
I love working at the Playhouse and with director Kathy Paladino. This play features many intriguing female characters grappling with the complexities of love, s*x, and marriage in the 1880s.

“What are you most excited about, in terms of your role”
I am excited to represent a kindhearted woman who loves nature, the piano, women, and children but who also struggles with her mental health.

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”
People should come see this show because it is a comedy, period piece written through a modern lens.

MEET THE CAST of IN THE NEXT ROOM:

RenĂŠe Schwarz appears on the CMP stage for the first time.

“What drew you to audition for this production?”
My love for the script, the playwright (Sarah Ruhl), and the wonderful audition experience I previously had at Costa Mesa Playhouse. I first read “Eurydice” by Sarah Ruhl in college and have been obsessed with all her plays since then, so I was extremely excited to audition when Costa Mesa Playhouse announced it as their first production of the season.

“What are you most excited about, in terms of your role”
Annie has a deeply layered past that I am excited to explore and share with the audience. At first glance, she seems like a modern woman with her career and independence of being unmarried, but we realize it is the result of the immense loneliness of living in a man’s world. She cares greatly about helping others and therefore, is often involved in the intimate medical “experiments” of Dr. Giving’s patients, even though she has never really explored that herself. I relate to Annie in a lot of different ways and am excited to bring her to life!

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”
So. Many. Or***ms.

MEET THE CAST of IN THE NEXT ROOM:

Lee Samuel Tanng makes his first appearance on the Playhouse stage.

“What drew you to audition for this production?”
I auditioned because I’ve always wanted to perform at Costa Mesa Playhouse and I’ve always wanted to work with Kathy Paladino. I also saw this show about 10 years ago and loved it.

“What are you most excited about, in terms of your role”
I’m most excited about exploring a character who is the polar opposite of myself.

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”
You’ll Be Entertained!

Adrian van der Valk appears in his first production at Costa Mesa Playhouse.

“What drew you to audition for this production?”
I remember hearing about this play years ago, and am a big fan of Sarah Ruhl, so decided to go for it.

“What are you most excited about, in terms of your role”
I’m excited to play such a fun, expressive character. And to be able to connect so deeply with his love and passion for art.

“In 3 words, why should people come see this show?”
It is hilarious.
