Paxlovid...another worthless, expensive medication.
Recently, I saw a new patient. He went to a Norton urgent care for symptoms of upper respiratory illness. They tested him for COVID & his out of pocket cost was $500...just for the test.
Had he been my patient when he got sick, I would have assessed him clinically, probably not tested, and treated aggressively if his risk factors warranted (NOT with paxlovid).

What can parents do?
Start by getting your kids off social media.
Then, consider taking the phone away for a while. In my experience, when parents do this, the child is angry at first but then grateful. They recognize the benefits of taking a technology break.

The ADHD post from last week did not contain my own commentary, so I deleted it.
My apologies, as the purpose of the post was to provide an alternate viewpoint on ADHD as an “illness.”
Personally, I’m re-examining much of what I learned in medical school and re-focusing the practice toward integrative medicine. My plan is to help people improve their health with lifestyle changes whenever possible, while prescribing medicine when necessary. All medicines have side effects, and I will inform my patients on potential benefits vs. potential side effects to the best of my ability.
For example, the new “weight loss” medicines will likely fall short of lifestyle changes to control obesity.

Succinct summary from Dr. Kelly Victory
We dispense several off label medications to treat Covid. Having said that, please don’t do a test without speaking to us first.
If you have cold symptoms or you are exposed to someone with an upper respiratory virus, let us know! We have options, including IV therapy (immune booster). If you are low risk/healthy, we will likely recommend that you rest, drink fluids, take zinc and vitamin C, and treat your symptoms as needed. However, if you are high risk, we will likely be more aggressive with treatment/prophylaxis.

Put the “care” back into healthcare
Direct Primary Care. In a traditional primary care practice, office visits are expensive, with most of the cost attributable to administrative overhead due to burdensome insurance paperwork and government regulations. Paying a membership fee to your physician allows him/her to limit the patient panel, and thus spend more time with you at your appointment and interact with you via email and phone.
Established in 2014, Bluegrass Family Wellness offers a comprehensive treatment plan which follows American Society of Addition Medicine treatment guidelines.
