A long, but worthy read of our Lucy girl -

Lucy is a 5 year old Malamute that was given a second chance at life.

For the past couple of years, Lucy has been dealing with horrible skin issues making her hair fall out, skin breakout into scabs and had a very foul smell to her. She was ultimately a frequent flyer for our grooming and dayspa services to try to help relieve any symptoms she was having, while being treated with multiple rounds of antibiotics, anti fungals and bloodwork that showed no significant findings at the time.

Unfortunately, things were progressing and due to financial reasons, Lucy was set to be euthanized.

There’s not many chances you get in vet med or at-least at our facility where a not healthy but healthy pet has a chance of being saved in hopes that there’s a turn around and they get better. Fortunately, in less than 2 days, our staff came up with a plan to save this sweet girl!

Lucy was relinquished to one of our technicians, Sam who immediately began further medications and diagnostics to get to the root of what’s been going on with Lucy. Sam has known Lucy over the years of seeing her come into the facility, so she already knew she’d fit right in to her home - whether it was just temporary or permanently!

In the mean time, Lisa, our office manager, reached out to a friend that was currently looking for another Malamute! Within a few hours of speaking about Lucy and a meet and greet a couple of days later, our Lucy girl had a permanent home set up! Talk about it all playing out perfectly - like it was meant to be!

About a week into Lucy living with Sam, she was diagnosed and confirmed with hypothyroidism. This girl showed every single symptom - hair loss/wiry fur, rat tail, uncontrolled skin infections, drunken gait & dragging of her feet, lethargy, weight gain, intolerance to cold (that we were told), etc. Lucy was immediately started on thyroid medication, antibiotics, anti fungals, allergy meds, ear meds for an ear infection, probiotics and medicated baths to start her healing process!

For 2 weeks, Lucy lived with Sam and then temporarily went to Lucy’s new owners’ parent’s house for a week. On July 24th, Miss Lucy was flown out to her new home……. ALASKA!!!

It’s been exactly 4 weeks since Lucy has been out there with her Malamute brother and new mom & she is thriving! Her skin is clearing up, her fur is growing back, her mobility has significantly improved - she’s climbing mountains 🏔️ (literally!) She’s also received her voice back, in which we were told she never barked or howled prior!

She’s spunky, she’s got some sassy attitude, she’s an attention lover, and most of all she’s livin it up in Alaska 🤍

If you’ve made it this far, please take time to watch this video! The first picture is what Lucy looked like prior to her medical issue. Then, it’s her journey on living with Sam, Kim’s parents, & then reaching Alaska to officially live with her new human mama, Kim!

On top of adventures with her mom & brother, Lucy also gets to experience the beautiful Alaskan scenery with her dog walker, Tim, every week, while her mama is workin! She climbed her first mountain with him & the rest of the fur gang; plus walking trails and beaches! AK Paws Play

What a life 🤩 We love you Lucy 🤍
