On this, our last day of service, I am reminded of all the blood blood, sweat and tears that went into this diamond in the rough to make it sparkle. Then and now photos for you to see how we have transformed this space.

Throughout the past five years, we have strived to make this restaurant a place where families can enjoy a sense of community and a wonderful meal. We will miss serving the Culver City community. We are still available for any catering needs. Feel free to reach out via email: [email protected].

Dear Valued Guests and Friends,

After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our doors as of October 27, 2024. As many of you know, this restaurant was a reboot of the Italian restaurant where Mario and I met so many years ago, so it is hard to say goodbye. However, we have learned that managing 3 restaurants is simply too much when our most important business is our family. We look forward to having more time to spend with our kids while they still want us around!

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Culver City community and our loyal supporters over the past 5 years. We know the community has appreciated all our school fundraisers and other charitable donations to non-profit organizations. It has truly been a gift to be able to give back to this community that means so much to us.
Thank you for being a cherished part of the Allegra California Café family. We love you and can’t wait to see you one last time!

NATIVE AMERICAN MAP 👇👇
https://nativeblood.store/native-american-map
I have often written about my Native-American heritage. Native American blood runs in our family in my mother's and father's lineage.
The ancestors of living Native-Americans arrived in North America about 15,000 years ago. As a result, a wide diversity of communities, societies, and cultures finally developed on the continent over the millennia.
The population figure for Indigenous peoples in the Americas before the 1492 voyage of Christopher Columbus was estimated at 70 million or more.
About 562 tribes inhabited the contiguous U.S. territory. The ten largest North American Indian Tribal Nations were: Arikara, Cherokee, Iroquois, Pawnee, Sioux, Apache, Eskimo, Comanche, Choctaw, Cree, Ojibwa, Mohawk, Cheyenne, Navajo, Seminole, Hope, Shoshone, Mohican, Shawnee, Mi’kmaq, Paiute, Wampanoag, Ho-Chunk, Chumash, Haida.
A tribal map of Pre-European North America, Central America, and the Caribbean by Michael Mcardle-Nakoma (1996) is featured below. It is an important historical document for those of us who have Native-American blood running through our veins.
This map gives a Native-American perspective on the events that unfolded in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean by placing the tribes in full flower ~ the “Glory Days.” It is pre-contact from across the eastern sea or, at least, before that contact seriously affected change.
Stretching over 400 years, the time of contact was quite different from tribe to tribe. For instance, the “Glory Days” of the Maya and Aztec came to an end very long before the interior tribes of other areas, with some still resisting almost until the 20th Century.
At one time, numbering in the tens of millions, the Native peoples spoke close to 4,000 languages.
The Americas’ European conquest, which began in 1492, ended in a sharp drop in the Native-American population through epidemics, hostilities, ethnic cleansing, slavery, and the Indian Removal Act of 1830. An estimated 60 million Native-Americans were killed by this combination of events.
When the United States was founded, established Native American tribes were viewed as semi-independent nations, as they commonly lived in communities separate from white immigrants.
Today, American Indians and Alaskan Natives account for 9.7 million people, according to the 2020 Census.

Our Story

Now offering delivery!

Mario & Allegra Perez met when they began working together in an Italian restaurant in Santa Monica in 2000. In 2008, they started their first restaurant, Tortuga Bay, which is in Inglewood and features ethnic dishes from Mario’s hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2017, Mario & Allegra began their second restaurant venture, Corsair Café, located at Santa Monica College. Corsair Café offers a healthy alternative to the usual cafeteria fare – including grilled panini, healthy grab n’ go salads and sides, vegetarian and vegan options, as well as fresh-squeezed juices and Lavazza coffee.

In 2019, Mario & Allegra decided to recreate a similar type of restaurant in which they met: California-Italian cuisine for the neighborhood and families to gather and enjoy locally-sourced meals. Allegra California Café offers healthy alternatives, is vegetarian and vegan-friendly, and of course, hearty comfort foods. We proudly serve Lavazza coffee and have a wide variety of fresh-squeezed juices.
