Cumberland, Maine is a quaint small-town located on the coast of Southern Maine. It’s conveniently located 11 miles northeast of the city of Portland and 11 miles southwest of Freeport. The Town was incorporated on March 19, 1821, which came after a successful secession effort by the residents of the northwestern section of the town of North Yarmouth. The Town was officially named by Ephraim Sturd
Trash and Recycling pick up is delayed by one day this week due to the holiday.
Additionally, due to an unexpectedly high volume of trash and recycling materials, Waste Management is making additional trips to EcoMaine to empty the trucks before continuing with the scheduled route. While they strive to maintain the collection routine, this situation may delay the pickup of waste for some streets at the end of the day. If your street is not collected as usual, please be assured that Waste Management will resume collection where they left off the following day.
While we anticipate this will not occur every day this week, we want to keep residents informed and request your cooperation. To ensure a smooth process, we kindly ask residents to leave their trash and recycling bins out until the next day, allowing Waste Management to complete the collection promptly.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful, safe and healthy new year! 🎉
REMINDER!
Due to the January 1, 2024, Monday Holiday – all collection routes will be pushed back a day this week.
Monday will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, Thursday on Friday and Friday on Saturday.

Help protect the East Branch Piscataqua River by preventing poo-llution at the Val Halla Golf Course on Saturday, December 16 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We’ll have free pet waste bags, games, and information on why picking up dog waste protects our soil and water resources.
At the end of the off-leash period last winter, the District picked up over 230 deposits while surveying the golf course. The East Branch Piscataqua River and some tributaries flow through the golf course and can carry the nutrients and pathogens from the dog waste downstream.
