With October coming to a close, we welcome all that November has to bring! Here's just a small sampling of what happened this week at Furkids Animal Rescue & Shelters.. 🐾✨

✈️ We recieved four kittens from our friends at # # # in St. Thomas and the crew from Delta wrote us the sweetest note! Thank you Chryssa and David for chaperoning these cuties on their way to the mainland!
🚗 We had an adoption event with our friends down at Classic Subaru of Atlanta for month.
🐱 Crouton made her first celebrity appearance on Fox 5 Atlanta's Pet of the Day Segment. Catch our marketing manager Zac with a new pet every Tuesday morning.
🎃 Our dogs celebrated Halloween with some pumpkin pup cups, and we also hosted a Halloween wedding at Shiloh Gardens!
👚 Our thrift stores brought in some new merch and our team scouted a dozen different spots for a new Furkids thrift store location! Stay tuned by following us at Furkids Thrift Store.
💕 Contessa and her six puppies are safe and sound, on the mend after we rescued them from an isolated dirt road last week. Some were even adopted today at our Fur-Ever Home Fest. Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraiser and helped us save them!

One year ago this weekend, we officially moved our cats from the temporary shelter (now our administration building) into the brand new Furkids Fort & Michele Felker Cat Shelter. It was a dream many years in the making, and when the big day finally came, it was pure magic. 😻

This shelter is truly one of a kind - designed with every detail in mind to provide our cats comfort, safety, and enrichment while they wait for their forever families. Each room is a paradise for cats, complete with tall perches, cozy hiding spots, catios for fresh air, ample food and toys, and lots of love from our dedicated staff and volunteers. Our beautiful shelter has also won three architectural design awards! ✨

Since its opening, we've celebrated hundreds of adoptions at this facility, welcomed dozens of new volunteers, and expanded our rescue efforts, saving more cats than ever before. Reflecting on this journey, we are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our community. We've seen some truly incredible adoptions this month! 🧡

So many animals who were once homeless, abandoned, and afraid - are now in a home with a loving family who will give them the life they deserve. This is the end goal for all animals who enter our program, and there's nothing that brings us more joy. 🥰

Every day, Furkids steps up to rescue some of the most medically fragile and at-risk animals in our community. We do everything in our power to be a voice for the voiceless, and to stand up for those who cannot stand for themselves.

In 2024, We've saved dogs like Porter from overcrowded shelters, kittens like Edith and Pearl who were homeless and on death's doorstep after being almost blinded from severe eye infections, and dogs like Faith who were living in deplorable conditions outside. These are just a few of the thousands of animals we save every year.

The sad reality is that most of these animals would have faced death had we not stepped in. And the truth is – this work doesn’t go on without the help from our supporters and community.

This year has been tough. Intakes are at an all time high, we are seeing more and more requests for help than ever before, and it isn’t stopping anytime soon. We always say that animal rescue takes a village, and right now we need your help.

There are only 3 days left during our “Give Fur Life” campaign to raise crucial funds to support our animals during the busy fall and winter season. We still have a long way to go to meet our goal.

Between our Give Fur Life campaign and Petsmart's National Adoption Week, we've had our hands full this week! We're here with your recap of what happened this week at Furkids..

🦮 We had a great time at the APAW Expo at the Hotel Avalon last weekend. We co hosted a seminar with Fix Georgia Pets & got to meet some furry friends at Canine Assistants!
💒 Our dog shelter manager, Alex, said yes to forever at Shiloh Gardens Events! Isn’t Poppy the cutest little sidekick? 🥹
🚗 The folks from Classic Subaru of Atlanta came by our headquarters to drop off donations in honor of Subaru Loves Pets month!
🐾 As part of PetSmart Charities’ National Adoption Week, their incredible team came by to give our kitties a groom so they can look their best in hopes of becoming adopted! We even had a Petsmart team member take home a senior Furkid of her very own.
😻 We also saw dozens of Furkids go to their forever homes yesterday at our Petsmart adoption events! So many happy tails.
💉 We hosted our monthly low-cost microchip and vaccine clinic yesterday at our headquarters!

All in all, it was an absolutely fantastic week at Furkids. See y'all next week! ✨

During the month of October, Furkids has taken in 60+ new dogs into our program. Between puppy season, hurricane rescues, and owner surrenders - it has been a very busy month at Furkids.

Today is just about the halfway point of the Give Fur Life Campaign. We have only 9 days left to meet our goal, and we still have a ways to go!

When you give to Give Fur Life, you can give with confidence - knowing that every dollar will go to saving lives. Lives like Emilia, and all of her babies - who wouldn’t be alive today if Furkids hadn’t saved them this week.

Emilia came to Furkids in unimaginable pain, unable to bear weight on her front leg after being shot with a pellet gun. But that wasn't all - Emilia was fighting another battle - a dangerously infected mammary gland, probably due to nursing multiple litters while she was living outdoors. If left untreated, this infection would likely have ended her life.

We can't imagine the emotional and physical turmoil this precious and innocent mother went through - doing everything she could to nurse and grow her four babies while injuries and infections ravaged her body. Emilia is stabilized at an external vet, receiving pain relief, antibiotics, and constant love and care. Emilia’s road to recovery is far from over. We are coordinating her recovery plan, and amputation might be her only option to live pain-free. Her infection will need to be drained and closely monitored as well.

At Furkids, we don't turn away the hard cases. We take in the forgotten, the broken, and the abandoned. But it comes at a cost. Animals like Emilia require intensive medical care, and that's why we are turning to you now during our third annual Give Fur Life campaign.

We serve hundreds of dogs every year, but sometimes there are dogs who really leave their mark while they're with us. Meet Bubbie. 🤍

We rescued Bubbie from an overcrowded shelter early in September and he's quickly become a volunteer and staff favorite due to his incredibly goofy personality. He's a one year old, 50 pound ball of love and funny antics. 🤪

He's not just fun and games though, Bubbie is very intelligent and is pretty good at picking up new tricks. We do think he would benefit from some training because he still has that bouncy, puppy mentality! We also think he would do best in a home without small children due to his playfulness and size.

Bubbie has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccinations, and microchipped. Your home will never be dull with this guy around. It's a kitten party at our Mall of Georgia Petsmart adoption center (1705 Mall of Georgia Blvd #50, Buford, GA 30519)! 🐱 Alivia, Mykel, Sophia Girl, Tiny, and Weeny are all under the age of six months old and are all ready to be adopted!

What better way to celebrate Subaru’s 6th annual than with a good cuddle and some yummy treats? 🐕 The folks from Classic Subaru of Atlanta came by our headquarters to drop off some much needed donations and give our dogs a break from the shelter!

Each October, Subaru and their retailers will once again partner with hundreds of local animal shelters and donate $100 for every dog adopted throughout the month. ✨

Late at night this past Sunday, we were made aware of a dire situation - an emaciated mother dog and her puppies were starving and abandoned down a very long isolated dirt road. It was cold that night and this entire family was left on their own, starving, with no food or water. Without hesitation, a Furkids team member knew what needed to be done and jumped in their car to save these precious souls.

What we saw absolutely broke our hearts - a mother dog, her six puppies, and one other precious older puppy - practically skin and bones, scared, starving and alone. As soon as we brought them into our care and gave them their very first meal, the momma dog stepped back to make sure her puppies got to eat first. While the babies scarfed down their food, we held the momma’s bowl so that she could eat, while the puppies ate. She literally would not eat until she knew they were fed first. This precious momma dog was so gentle with her puppies and our team, while we know she was literally starving. One of the greatest acts of love and so heartbreaking at the same time.

These precious souls are so severely malnourished, covered in fleas, full of parasites and have been starving for a while. The mother’s milk is likely what kept them alive, while it drained all of her nutrients to do so. One of the puppies appears to be blind in both eyes, yet this precious baby maintained a way to stay with its family. Upon arrival to Furkids, this precious blind baby was found to be in the roughest shape. It is very anemic, dehydrated and was immediately transferred to an emergency vet and is now receiving the appropriate care needed. We hope this baby will survive and that we weren't too late. We are so grateful that we can now call these babies “Furkids Babies”.

We know there are many passionate animal lovers in our community who wish they could have their boots on the ground if not for the daily demands of work and home life. The truth is, this work would not be possible without the support of people like you. You may not be able to physically contribute to the rescue of these extreme cases that come through our doors, but your financial contribution makes this very important work a reality.

This campaign is crucial to sustaining Furkids' operations during the busy fall season. We're facing an unprecedented number of requests for assistance. With many rescue groups across the country shutting down and intakes at an all time high, it’s alarming to witness the growing need for support. Every day, we receive countless pleas for help with cats and dogs—and the demand shows no signs of easing.

In 2024, we have saved 6,647 animals - and we are on track to save another 1,000 animals before the end of the year with your help. "Give Fur Life" is the perfect opportunity to make a difference for the precious lives who are downtrodden, homeless, and hurt.

We're here at the Animal Protection and Wellness Expo this weekend, partnering with prominent figures in animal welfare to drive legislative reform, prioritize animal protection, and develop effective intake diversion strategies.

Furkids was invited to collaborate with Georgia Veterinary Medical Associates to bring dogs and cats for the Ultrasound Wet Lab and two day seminar. Vets got to practice their ultrasound skills, and our animals received several physical exams and lots of love and attention throughout the day!

Our team set up a booth in the event where we had the chance to mingle with industry professionals, and spread the message about the exciting and bright future of Furkids!
