It's time for the next chapter of Studio Lotus Forsyth. I have transitioned to an in-home studio space, offering Private and Duet Pilates Sessions.
Our original location was amazing, and I am so grateful for all of the wonderful people I have been able to meet and work with over the years. It was time for a change, so I have moved to an in-home studio space, and will continue to provide the high level of classical Pilates teaching that you have received over the last 13 years.

So you want to try Pilates, but don’t know which of the various studio options is really right for you. You should definitely do your research because your health, safety and money are all impacted by your decision.
> Expertise & Passion of Instructors: Be sure the instructors are comprehensively trained- Pilates isn’t something that can be taught after attending a weekend workshop. Most instructors serious and passionate about their profession have gone through a comprehensive teacher training program (600+ hours of training and apprenticeship), as well as ongoing learning through continuing education courses.
> Style of Teaching: Classical vs Contemporary vs Reformer based classes- which is right for you? None of these are “wrong”, it’s a matter of understanding what to expect with each of these styles of teaching.
> Offerings / Schedule: Are you looking for classes or private/semi-private sessions? What class size are you comfortable with - small or larger? Do you have any specific physical challenges (neck/back/knee issues) that would indicate that the special attention given in private/semi-private sessions would be more appropriate than the general instruction typically provided in classes?
> Location: Is the studio convenient to either work or home? A “good" Pilates practice generally includes 2-3 workouts per week. You should look for a location that makes 2-3 times per week a viable option.
You may notice that price was not included in the above things to consider. While affordability is always a consideration, looking for that first free class may not be the best place to start. Consider your long term health and fitness goals, and look for the studio that has the expertise to help you achieve those goals.
We all need to take time to take care of ourselves. As Pilates teachers, finding the time for our own workouts can be challenging. Fortunately for us, our mentor at offers amazing online sessions.

Progressions in Pilates provide the challenges which make us stronger 💪
Shoulder Bridge: Lying down with the support of the mat; roll the pelvis and spine up with a strong low abdominal connection (try not to lift by just pushing the hips up).
Down Stretch: Challenge the Shoulder Bridge by kneeling vs. lying down and adding the movement of the carriage/resistance of the springs. Work to maintain stability of pelvis and spine, with the additional challenges of less support and more resistance from the springs.
Pull Up on the Wunda Chair . . . take the challenge of the Teaser and flip it upside down 😃

Pull Straps: Low abdominal connection to maintain a neutral pelvis + upper back connection to provide the lift and extension, while supported on the box.
Chest Expansion: Challenge the low abdominals and upper back by taking away the support of the box, and changing from lying down to kneeling.
