We have a few spots open so please consider joining us for Spring 2023 LIVE in person for DMT 54. Class starts Monday April 10th and the normal registration closes Saturday.
DMT 54 offers you an opportunity to build upon the overview of the Additive Manufacturing world you gathered in DMT 53. The course is designed to be a hands-on learning experience blended with lecture. Youâll dive deeper into the print-preparation software you were introduced to in 53, including Stratasysâs Insight and GrabCAD Print and Formlabsâs PreForm. Youâll learn advanced techniques in Netfabb for editing STL files and formatting the output for color printing. For the heart of the course, youâll select a part from a curated library of parts and build it with printers that utilize four of the seven ASTM AM process categories. This quarter we are rolling out the Formlabs Fuse 1 SLS printer as part of the DMT 54 curriculum, along with Material Extrusion (FDM), Material Jetting (Polyjet), and Vat Photopolymerization (SLA) printers. Youâll work in a group to format print trays and learn to operate the printer. Over the course of the quarter, youâll produce a printed specimen of your part in each of the four technologies and will carry out a quantitative comparison of the printed results from the four printers. Based on this learning, youâll draw conclusions about the strengths and weaknesses of each technology, their suitability for the âuse caseâ of your part, and summarize your findings in a final project report.

James is reimagining and designing a flexible gym space that promotes health and wellness for athletes, like him, who are recovering from serious injuries. Your designs need to be submitted as an Instructables guide, presenting and explaining a clear visual depiction of your concept. Document the stages of your design process and pretend that youâre pitching an idea to stakeholders.
