The Ferm is a small, boutique fermentation company located on the North Fork of Long Island. At the very least it will be fun trying!
We specialize in making various healthy ferments such kombucha, kimchi and sauerkraut. Come on down to the farmers markets or any local farm stand to have a tas Unlike most of history, the story of kombucha and how it was created is a fable not yet agreed upon. What comes to mind is an image of an individual within a small town, somewhere in the far east, allowing their tea to sit for too long (or
just the right amount of time) until it developed a white gelatinous sheath, coating the tea within the cup. Probably indifferent to risk and rather curious the individual took a swig and voila, kombucha was realized! Created through experimentation and spread through culture, kombucha embodies the tale that represents our company's humble journey. Stoic Artisans is a company located on the north fork of Long Island, started by myself Joseph Hernandez and my loving girlfriend, Brianna Hulmes. Our interest, and more importantly, our passion for good food, healthy living and community in a world of globalization and homogenization of goods, inspired us to provide a series of cultured products for cultured people. There is little doubt regarding the efficienies that advanced supply chain technology has provided for mankind; however, there are a few externalities that have arrived with this advanced technology and we at Stoic Artisans believe that food and beverages should be made locally, more so than not at least, using the local flora in order to provide the greatest quality to the people consuming them. Cultivating and brewing cultured products for cultured people is not an elitist notion but rather a daring statement, a statement that recognizes the importance of local culture. Mankind is by nature a tribal species who feels the most comfortable and fulfilled when part of a tight-niche community. World trade is a beautiful development that raises people out of poverty and provides us with the tea that we need in order to make our products. Nevertheless, our company desires to bridge the dichotomy via obtaining the top ingredients, purchasing local for what ever our precious island can provide us, while also looking abroad for exotic elements that we can add to our products to enrich our culture here on Long Island with minimal taxing of the earth. We are amidst a food revolution in this country and we at Stoic Artisans want to be a part of it. Join us in this wonderful time to be alive and to be able to change the world for the better.
