He teaches art and design at the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron and is currently Coordinator of Foundations 2D Design and teaches all levels of design.

Marbled Geometry is a series of works that explore the fusion of marbling and geometric abstraction. Both practices, marbling and abstract painting have become an integral part of my creative process. I started this series of work in 2017 knowing that it would evolve into new manifestations that combined both practices in unique and fresh ways. In each composition there is a push and pull between which part dominants, marbling or geometry, allowing for the viewer to partake in the process of reading and decoding these layered approaches. Each work acts as a viewport into a different world—one that is sensual, metaphysical, and filled with emotion. The work at times has been inspired by Illuminated manuscripts, paper architecture, the work of international marblers, or trends in abstract painting.
is owned and operated by Jenniffer Omaitz (1979, Cleveland, OH / lives in Kent, OH). She holds an M.F.A. in painting from Kent State University and a B.F.A. in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art In 2016, Omaitz started JC Marbling after 14 months of independent research and experimentation with marbling. JC Marbling & Book Arts was founded to pursue the practice of marbling, book arts, and as a teaching platform for the craft of marbling. Omaitz currently works with Praxis Fiber Workshop and the Morgan Paper Conservatory and sells her handmade products at a variety of retailers in North East Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
With the upcoming holiday, here are our hours for the next week! Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at Asterisk Coffee Bar!
Peter Wolfgang is an artist and Methodist pastor currently living and working in the village of Conesville, Ohio. His work attempts to return the everyday world to its naturally miraculous, profoundly mysterious, and deeply spiritual state. He creates work on canvas, but without the use of paint. Using the technique of emulsion, he uses only materials that appear spent and useless - rust, ash, clay, chalk, molasses, and resin - in ways that conjure unexpected results when combined. Wolfgang says, “We often think of the material and spiritual worlds as being separate from - and indeed opposite of - each other. I’m interested in resurrecting what is spiritual from what appears dead, in reawakening sleeping little miracles in the mundane.”
Artist reception will be hosted on October 28th from 4-6pm.

Jimena Horta is a Mexican Photographer and Visual Artist based in Cleveland, Ohio. Born in 1992 in Cancún, she has lived in different countries throughout her career, including England, Spain and the United States.
She holds a Bachelors in Communication and Filmmaking from the Universidad Anáhuac and a Masters Program in Photography & Artistic Projects from PhotoEspaña.
The project on view, “Procesos de Reconstruccíon”, was inspired by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a type of therapy she took in 2019 and that was simultaneously used as a source to make this body of work.
Her photographic process is based on daily life, trial and error, and mostly an intuitive and visceral way of making photographs. She’s convinced that what she photographs reflects her unconsciousness and that has become an endless game of self discovery; that’s her main goal as an artist. She has found through photography a way to fail and make mistakes with the chance of transforming it to something that has meaning beyond its own nature and taking on more symbolic concepts. Her work has been shown and made part of private collections in Mexico, Chile, Spain and the United States.

Have you met Kaylie? A bright force on our team, able to make anyone’s day better by being around her. Kaylie started with the ACR/ACB team in March of last year and has been working weekends when she has time off from her day job at Red Point Digital.
Kaylie’s hobbies include: writing a novel and a movie script, as well as photography, long walks, and listening to classic rock. She has worked as a script supervisor on a movie set! You could say she is quite the creative. She aspires to take her work and create a positive impact on those reading, watching, consuming what she has made.
Her Sundays off are spent planning the week and getting organized, to be able to conquer each day. When she gets a break from all that planning, though, she spends her time watching her favorite movie: Dead Poets Society, listening to her favorite Pat Benatar songs, and eating one of delectable creations!
Come see her this weekend and try her favorite drink: an iced cortado with honey and oat milk!
Come join us next Friday (5/26) from 4-6pm for an art reception here at Asterisk Coffee Bar celebrating the artists from Kent State University School of Art!

The marvelous Becca! Becca is our HR manager and has been with us since June 2021. When she isn’t here at the shop, she’s next door with Nathan over at brainstorming new products for them.
In her off time, Becca enjoys hiking (she has been collecting her SMP Fall Hiking Spree badges since she was a baby!), drawing, cross stitch, puzzles, watching football, and traveling. You can also catch her watching the best movie of all time: “Cool Runnings” and eating cheese of all kinds.
Come on in and say hi while she makes her favorite drinks for you: a Central American pour over or an oat milk cortado. Thinking of a cocktail? Try her go-to: a Oaxacan Old Fashioned.
Any day. Any time…But especially on the weekend.

Have you met Riley? He joined our team in August of 2022 and has brought smiles to everyone’s faces ever since! As soon as you walk through the door, Riley is greeting you with a kind smile and setting a positive mood for the day. Usually, listening to any 90’s alternative playlist and possibly singing along. He gets along with just about everyone and shows a genuine interest in anyone’s day.
Riley enjoys video games, fantasy/sci-fi books, watching the GOAT of all movies: How to Train Your Dragon, and, in true Cleveland sports fan fashion, watch the Browns (lose). He aspires to one day own as many cats as legally possible. A house full of cuddles!
Come on in and say “hi” and enjoy his favorite roast, Puppies (Timor Leste) or his favorite drink: Gin and Tonic.
