¿Por qué la gente dice “Un ojo al gato y otro al garabato”?
Las cocinas mexicanas de antes eran diferentes, cierto tipo de carnes y pescados se debían colgar y conservar en un instrumento llamado garabato; según el Diccionario de la Lengua Española es un instrumento de hierro cuya punta forma un semicírculo y sirve para tener colgado algo. Por otra parte, el gato al ser un animal domestico y bastante ágil, era el único que podía alcanzar los alimentos dentro de la cocina. Así, cuando un gato entraba a la cocina era muy probable que brincara para quedarse con algo de lo que se hubiese colgado en el garabato. Las cocineras debían de estar pendientes del garabato que tenía colgado algún alimento y también del gato bandido que quería apropiarse del comestible. De ahí surge, entonces, este famoso dicho mexicano “Un ojo al Gato y otro al Garabato”. Estar en dos cosas al mismo tiempo sin descuidar una u otra.
Los dichos mexicanos son y serán una maravilla de nuestro lenguaje.
