To us, isn’t just about celebrating pets. 🐾 It’s also about celebrating the unbreakable bond between pets and their parents! We spend a lot of time with so many fiercely loving and dedicated pet parents, who go above and beyond for their fur babies.

We know firsthand that, at times, owning a pet can be tough, stressful, and heartbreaking. But we also know that being a pet parent means daily love, joy, loyalty, hilarity, and comfort. YOU are making a significant and positive impact in your pet’s life by giving them a home, unconditional love, and a friend for life!

Thank you to the dog moms, the cat dads, and everything in between. As always, give your pet extra love from us, but today give yourself a pat on the back as well!

Ever notice your pet acting unusual and thought to check their gums? 🤔 Bentley's pet parent did! Bentley's owner woke up and noticed Bentley exhibiting some strange behavior and extreme lethargy. They took a look at Bentley's gums, saw they were extremely pale, and immediately rushed him in. Due to their quick thinking, Bentley survived and is back home, happy and healthy. 🐾❤️

If you're unfamiliar with gum colors, take a look at our infographic below to learn what to watch out for!

Gearing up for a marathon of spring cleaning? 🧹 Before you start, be sure to know which cleaners are toxic to your pets. Unfortunately, many of the most common products include ingredients that may be harmful to both dogs and cats, even those that are marketed as green or natural. ☣️ Watch out for these chemical ingredients:

• Chlorine (Bleach): Pets breathe faster than we do, which means more toxins are absorbed into their system. Though naturally occurring, chlorine in high concentrations can be deadly to pets.
• Ammonia: Found commonly in oven cleaners, window cleaners, floor waxes, and fertilizers – often as ammonium hydroxide. Exposure may cause severe damage to eyes, skin, stomach, and even death.
• Glycol Ethers: These chemicals are known to cause various cancers in lab rats, as well as birth defects, delayed development, and other effects, such as anemia, eye and nose irritation, and weight loss. Commonly listed as 2-Methoxyethanol, 2-Ethoxyethanol, and 2-Butoxyethanol.
• Formaldehyde: Exposure usually comes from inhalation, though can also be absorbed through skin. It doesn’t have to be listed on your cleaner ingredient list, other names for formaldehyde include: formalin, formic aldehyde, methanediol, methanol, methyl aldehyde, methylene glycol, and methylene oxide.
• Phthalates: Since hormones control so much more than just reproduction in your pet’s system (and yours), phthalates have been linked to indirect symptoms such as weight gain, cancers, and developmental delays. You’ve probably heard of the commonly known phthalate, BPA, but there are many more.

And the winner for the Hospital's Best Hair Do goes to Oro!! 🏆

Oro was admitted to us after he got a positive parvo test at his primary vet. He was monitored for two days, then sent home after showing incredible improvement. Oro was one of the lucky ones, as Parvo is a serious disease with a high fatality rate.

With parvo, prevention is key. It is imperative for puppies to get all of their shots and avoid areas where infection is possible. You can learn more about Parvo in the infographic below! 👇

Meet Bristol! This sweet curly Q came in for vomiting and bloody diarrhea. 🤢🤒

In Bristol's case, her pet parents were able to rule out the possibility of a foreign body or toxic ingestion. This tells us that the most likely cause of her symptoms were either Pancreatitis or HGE. Due to the relatively common diagnosis of Pancreatitis or HGE, we thought we'd share an infographic detailing the causes, symptoms, and treatment. Bristol is now back home, feeling much better!

If your pet is experiencing any vomiting and/or diarrhea, it's best to bring them to your nearest ER, as they're most likely dehydrated. The vet can let you know what tests/treatment should be done from there. Let us know if you have any questions!

March is National Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month! We’ll be sharing several tips over the next few weeks to inform you about the potential dangers of pet poisonings and how to prevent them. ☣️🐾

In the event of a poisoning or toxin exposure, quick action and expert advice are critical! We recommend you save numbers and addresses in your phone for your veterinarian, your nearest emergency animal hospital, and a poison control hotline. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is staffed by board-certified veterinary toxicologists and specialist technicians and are available every day 24/7. They can be reached at 1.888.426.4435.

Meet Stella! 🐾 Stella was admitted to us after she had gone through the trash, resulting in vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and lethargy. In order to rule out an intestinal blockage, we needed to take an x-ray of her stomach.

Did you know?
• Generally, x-rays of pets account for only 18% of the radiation to which they are exposed. The majority of radiation exposure comes from their food, drinking water, and other environmental sources.
• X-rays are safe and the effectiveness of using them as a diagnostic tool far outweigh the limited radiation exposure they cause.
• X-rays are used to identify fractured bones, diagnose other medical conditions like cancer, pneumonia, any stomach/bowel obstructions, bladder and kidney stones.

As you may be able to tell from the x-rays, Stella's stomach was clear of any foreign bodies! She was then given a blood test, where our Doctor diagnosed her with Gastroenteritis, most likely caused by dietary Indiscretion. She's back home so she can relax and her pet parent can monitor her!

Visit and follow our Instagram to see our technicians, Kelsey and Destinee, prepare Stella for her x-rays!

Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day!

Ever wonder if we saw the glowing online review you wrote? Not only do we see them, we publish them! 📰🐾

Our hospital has a monthly in-house newsletter, where we relay all sorts of varying information to our staff. However, the one page that stays the same is our "Rave Review Section", where we collect and publish a months' worth of thoughtful and encouraging reviews!

If you're looking to spread some today, we'd love for you to leave a staff member a review. Whether they cared for your pet, comforted you, or were just plain nice, we want them to know how appreciated they are! In an industry like this one, a small act of kindness goes a long way. ❤️🩺
