Sometimes we Pray 🙏🏼 very hard for one miracle 👼🏽 and get LUCKY with 👼🏽👼🏽
Twins are rare these days in fertility, especially IVF as we have moved towards almost 100% single embryo transfers, but even then the chance of homozygous twins - identical twins- when the embryo splits in two, is 1.5-3%, while in nature is 0.5%
Most of the twins we see these days are from ovulation induction cycles (Clomid, Letrozole, injectables) +/- IUI
Congratulations to this couple who’s life will be changed forever!!!

Genetic testing of embryos has revolutionized fertility care. Many are abnormal and do not result in pregnancy, and if they do, they misacarry or are Down Syndrome
Will people be forced to transfer them?
Will people not have access to testing?
 
Freezing embryos allows people to have babies in the future, to transfer one at a time, to genetically test them, to transfer them into a surrogate, or if created with an egg donor into a patient

Any IVF lab stores thousands of embryos at any one time    
How can you freeze / store embryos and keep them stored if each embryo can be criminalized?

If an embryo is a child, how can a lab assume the liability to do what is done every day:
Grow them in culture
Biopsy them to determine which are Chromosomally abnormal
Freeze and thaw them
All of these are done to select embryos that are compatible with having a child, improve pregnancy rates, lower miscarriage and multiples rates, lower costs of building a family, having not just one child per IVF  cycle but also other kids in the future, avoiding Downs and other more severe syndromes. The process selects out those who are less likely while improving maternal safety for pregnancy but would not be possible if they are criminalized
 
IVF is so efficient because there is power in numbers and the IVF lab becomes the place where selection of the embryo that can give you a child occurs. Saving women months or years of trying. What happens in nature over a long time can be done in one month in the lab.

In trying to do good, these attorneys are making decisions that are hurting the very people who most desire to become parents

Doctors and highly skilled embryologists will not work or train in these states
Access to care will be very limited and much more expensive, affecting the most women and families
