And just like that, my baby is officially a 1st grader.🥹
Obviously I’m taking this harder than I should. But honestly why is time flying? My feisty, resilient, baby girl. The sweetest most kindest kid I know. This is only the beginning for you kiddo. Mommy and Daddy are soo proud of you 💙
Relationships matter! 🙌
I know EVERYONE at some point remembers being a kid and thinking “I can’t wait to be a grown up!”
But then when we grow up we realized it’s not all that it cracked up to be 🥴😂😂 My mother used to always tell me “Don’t rush to get old” and now I know EXACTLY what she meant 😩😩
Now here I am 27 years later trying to persuade my 4 year old daughter to stay as young for as long as she can, because this adult life is not what it appears to be 😩😂😂😂
If I had to rate adulthood... I’d give it zero stars😩
I do not recommend 😩😂😂 It’s ghetto on this side my love, listen to your mother 😩😩😂😂😂😂😂

Dramatic play

•
Some may see it as simply playing dress up, or just simply playing with absolutely no learning involved.
But this is simply not true! Dramatic play helps to not only boost your child’s imagination and ability to create ideas, it also is an amazing tool to help gain everyday living experiences, as well as a way to learn about gender roles and assessing your child’s language skills.
When Sanaa typically feels like serving us food, my husband and I oblige her by pretending we are in a restaurant, and we role play scenarios with her and show her the proper way conduct to herself within these scenarios. Sometimes we even pretend she’s our mom and we’re her kids 😂 (this is the funniest). This helps us to engage in dialect with her, see how well she can speak and form her thoughts and ideas into intellible sentences. Sometimes she says things that leaves us sitting there questioning each other like “where did she learn that ?” 🥴
For us this is like killing two birds with one stone. Not only do we get to teach her how to conduct herself within society, but we also are spending MEANINGFUL quality time with her. She loves it, it makes her feel heard, and confident about her decision making, but most of all loved.
So the next time you see your child engaged in play, be intentional, and make it a learning experience for not only your child but for you as well !
Quality time with my mini me this weekend !
Quality time is the MOST underrated part of being a parent. Our little ones look up to us. They learn and study us. And we must do the same with them to effectively parent. The best way to tackle this task is by spending MEANINGFUL, QUALITY TIME with them. Being together at home and seeing each other’s faces everyday isn’t enough.
What’s their favorite color, tv show, an food? What are their strengths and weaknesses ? All of this can be found out by simply talking to them or simply completing the most menial tasks with them. So this weekend we were cooks 😆 She made her own breakfast, and later that night she wanted to prepare her favorite dish together (spaghetti), which we did! It came out amazing.
Best of all she did not watch tv the entire day.👏🏾👏🏾 I got to see my baby girl smile, and we got to express our love for one another by spending quality time! Even though she’s growing up I want to make sure I am there EVERY STEP of the way. She will always be “Mommy’s baby” 😆❤️
What are some things you do to spend time with your children?
We made our first TV Debut yesterday 💖🤩 If you haven’t already follow my business page Exceeding Education 😁
Do you teach your kids life concepts outside of their regular studies?
Lately my husband and I have been teaching our 3 year old life skills and concepts. This week we’ve been focusing on Respect. We sat down with her and explained what it was and some practical ways she could be respectful. We even played a game teaching her to spell the word, and followed it up with an art activity!
Often times I randomly question her to see if she remembers these concepts. This was one of those times and of course she was less than enthused bc she had just completed her homeschool session😂😂😩 (it must be awful having a mother as a teacher🤣) But we are also teaching her that we sometimes have to do the things we don’t want to get to where we want to be in life. Working SMARTER not harder is our family motto !
Super proud of my baby girl! ❤️❤️
Oldie but still a goodie ! Mornings are the best time to test her knowledge.
She was just 2 here. Now she’s 3 going on 30 😩🤦🏾♀️❤️
Morning Mantra with my mini me !
If they say it and hear it enough, then eventually they will start to believe it!
I call it POSITIVE PROGRAMMING ❤️
SN: excuse the mirror she drags her hands across it everyday 🥴
Just for jokes or is it ? 🤣🤣
People often run with the rhetoric not realizing that their doing more harm than good for their bodies. The same is true for young children. Nap time and bedtimes serve as an opportunity for the brain to process everything the child has just learned at a given time, and helps to store that information. Without proper rest your child’s brain is just running at a tangent. Of course kids hate nap time, but eventually they always seem to drift off to sleep regardless of their own protest. And this is simply because their little bodies can’t take it. Enforcing a nap time can not only be beneficial for you as the parent to get things done, but think of all the storing of knowledge your child will be doing while they are resting their little heads.
I keep fussing at myself about this
I get that some parents have to do what they must to provide for their children and unfortunately they need childcare. However, what’s gonna happen should something like this happen to your child ? You’re STILL going to have to miss out on work. Smh I promise you it isn’t worth it. Priorities.
More than 300 children in Texas day cares have caught COVID-19, and the numbers are rising Nationwide, coronavirus transmission rates among children have appeared to be low, partly explaining the push to reopen schools. But Texas day cares are seeing cases increase quickly.
“There is no evolution in raising yourself.”
-Derrick Grace ll
Think about it. Think about who you are as a person. The type of family you were born into. The ways in which you were raised. Has it been helpful in your adult life or, are you still trying to repair the broken foundation that was set before you?
As a parent, your main responsibility is to raise self sufficient children, who will grow to be self sufficient adults. As parents, unfortunately we will not be here forever. The worst thing we can do is handicap our children all of their lives, and then abandon them with no guidance on how to navigate through this world after our death.
But we as parents can not change the lives of our children if we don’t change our own lives first. Unlearning and relearning should be a constant activity that we must endulge ourselves in daily in order to break generational curses.
REMEMBER: Children will not do as you SAY but they will do as YOU DO!
At the very least, we should not strive to be perfect but we should strive to be progressive.

What are things that you do daily, in your own life to break generational curses?
