The Aspiring Home Interiors
CREATING INTENTIONAL CURATED INTERIORS THAT REFLECT YOU.
Work with what’s there… the flooring was a favorite of the homeowners and had just been replaced.
The shared bathroom update was added after we began the design work for the teen bedroom so it was easy to pull this simple update together.
I fell hard for the hexagon tile with a marbled effect in a color palette because it incorporated the floor color and gave us a chance to tie in a smoky slate blue on the newly designed vanity base.
Speaking of the vanity base… The old vanity was hard to keep organized due to the depth and lack of shelving.
It was time to release it and embrace something new.
A drawer style vanity allowed for what we love (especially for teens) real-life easy organization.
Now the vanity area looks as good as the rest of the newly designed teen bedroom!
Throwback to when I partnered with to share how beautiful and simple it was to purchase and install a library ladder.
Itching to install another 😉
• 2020 saw a huge uptick in home office design thanks to the WFH necessity. Even though we are 4 years out from that time and many have gone back to the workplace... many have not.
Offices/studies that are still in everyday, all day use may need a little facelift. Over the last few months I have done small paint consults for these spaces.
Maybe you don’t need the whole room redone but maybe a new rug, accessories, and a fresh new paint color are the perfect answer.
Did you know that most designers usually offer services just for these situations (I do!).
So reach out to your favorite designer and check out the array of services they offer!
Seahorses flanking the tub? Why not!
Dorothy Draper said, “I always put in one controversial item. It makes people talk.”
I would like to add...”or make you smile”.
“ Where house becomes HOME” has been The Aspiring Home Interiors tagline from day one.
These bronze cuties are in a primary bathroom and they are just plain fun.
Why not inject a bit of personality? Add something out of the ordinary, curate and create a home you will not only love but where you will find joy and comfort.
But don’t get crazy, remember just ONE controversial item in each room. 😉
Have a marvelous Thursday my friends.
“Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
No words could ring truer than on this last day of 2023.
Every year contains its own unique beauty and sorrow. Some years the beauty and sorrow are balanced. Other years, one can outweigh the other.
Question is, what do we allow to travel with us into the new year?
Let me put it another way…
What will we voluntarily carry into the New Year?
Some sorrow will travel due to loss of loved ones. Some happiness will come due to future celebrations.
Putting these aside, what will you grip? Will you hold on to anger? Will you hold on to bitterness? Will you hold onto to your assumptions about other people? Will you hold on to fear?
Or…
Will you hold on to peace? Will you hold on to hope? Will you hold on to forgiveness? Will you hold on to courage?
I ask you because I ask myself these very things. What we choose will absolutely shape the new year. What we carry with us will affect our health, our family, our friendships.
What we carry will either multiply our peace or destroy our hope. We have 365 beautifully complicated days ahead where anything can happen. How we handle those days will depend a lot on our mindset on day 1.
It’s not easy leaving behind the hurts of the past, but leave them. Let the wounds finally begin healing. Allow them to become the scars that tell a story of hope to others who need to heal.
I want the very best for you in 2024. I want to hear about all the marvelous dreams coming true. That hard work and perseverance is bearing fruit and the difference made by leaving the pain behind.
May this sunset be so much more.
Merry Christmas Eve!
Are you still busy preparing?
I am.
This year has been a little different and that’s ok.
I’m excited to finish the decor, wrap the presents, make our traditional Christmas morning breakfast and my grandmother’s gumbo.
I managed to get a blog post up today and it’s full of helpful tips, my Pecan Eggnog waffles recipe and Christmas present gift tag printables...just in case you run out at midnight.which I have no idea what that is like 🙄😉
• The blog link will be in the bio
Enjoy this magnificent day of expectation!
Happy Saturday! I’ve gotta confess...
my Christmas decorating has been on pause and I not sure I will finish before the big day.
Anyone else out there relate?
I have had years of being perfectly put together and I have had years that were not.
But guess what?
Christmas will come whether the tree is fabulous or it’s non-existent.
Don’t let stress and perfection steal the memories with family and friends. I know, so easy to say and difficult to do.
Breathe friend. Enjoy the Instagram Christmas beauty for what it is...beauty.
Be inspired. Be encouraged. Most of all be at peace and embrace all the good surrounding you.
Can’t find the good? Get out there and do it- the world needs YOU!

It’s paint palette by photo!
I have a love for doors. The ornate and the simple. I snapped this as we walked the streets of Paris.
I really love using app and decided to try this photo.
On the blog today, I share these stunning colors (& their names) and the gorgeous furnishings I pulled that evoke this color roundup.

Let’s talk about tufted furniture.
Did you know that tufting furniture came into vogue in the late 1700’s or 18th century? It all started with the Chesterfield sofa.
This now iconic offering was commissioned by the 4th Earl of Chesterfield, Lord Philip Stanhope.
The requirements? The piece needed to sit low with with a high back to allow gentlemen to sit comfortably without creasing their suits and this couch needed to really bring the “wow factor” (my words, not Lord Stanhope’s ).
The craftsman created a stunning piece of furniture that was so striking and memorable it wasn’t long before the upper class started commissioning their own versions of the Earl’s coveted original design.
Don’t be afraid to add a bit of tufting in some form or fashion to your own home. It’s a classic style that easily transitions from the traditional to the more modern.

Hey there! It’s been a while since we talked and I thought I would say hello and share a little bit about myself you may or may not know.
Today is a very special day for me. It is a day that the world qs I knew it changed. It is a long story with a few bumps, twists and turns, so I will share a snippet.
October 4th, 1990 at around 11:30 am, I had a horrible car accident.
I endured hours of surgery with the doctors telling me afterwards that it would have been simpler to amputate my left hand due to the extreme damage but they saved it and not to get my hopes up - it would only serve as a decoration, a claw.
My face was so shattered that they could not operate due to the severe swelling. They braced me for the fact that I would have to have a “new face”, the words “wire mesh” were what I remember hearing and that I would never look the same… ever again.
My left eye would have to be pushed forward and I would probably loose all my teeth- they were on the verge of falling out.
Then the doctors shared with me that there was a good chance that I would never walk normally again if at all.
If I did walk- I would have a severe limp and would never be able to play any sports. I would have to be happy to get from point A to point B but to brace for the reality of a very altered life.
I can say that I am the recipient of bonafide miracles and I am one who has had to endure extreme pain and fight to reach normalcy. I know what it is like to go blind and see again, to not be able to do a 200 mile bike ride.
If you follow me and The Aspiring Home, believe me, I know and you are in my thoughts.
When I say I cheer you on to your own victories both big and small, I mean it! I understand what it is like to face mountains of uncertainty. I am one who has been blessed to have incredible support from my precious family and friends since day 1.
Today I could take account of what I lost and what I have had to endure. But I choose to celebrate all that I have been given
If you swipe through you will see the wreck and my high school photo before the wreck.
Not everyone has true antiques, the item has to hit 100 years old mark to be considered for this status.
However, many have vintage or modern heirlooms that carry great meaning for the family as a whole or a family member.
These items bring back sweet memories of trips taken or memories of those who have played a significant role in our lives.
The quick answer? Frame it and hang it. Is this the right answer? Sometimes.
This is one of the areas a designer can be of great value. Our job is to create and incorporate.
Create: a beautiful design that fits YOU.
Incorporate: “out of the box” thinking that can bring new life to treasured objects.
Case in point - Swipe through to the next picture. The beloved family treasure? Vintage movie reels.
When creating the design for this space, I saw these as a nesting coffee table and set about figuring out how they could be turned into something useful, unique, and just plain uber cool.
The coffee table idea is just one option, I could have turned them into wall sconces, or high top tables for extra guests, they could have been a part of an incredible concession style bar.
To just nail them to the wall would have been a loss of character and perhaps the chance to share their story because they would blend into the background when they were made to stand out.
Now having said that, Great Grandma Ethel’s false teeth might pose as a challenge
BUT …
what is life without challenge? 😉
The power of a morning routine in a perfectly curated bathroom that fits YOUR needs and aesthetic is priceless...especially on Mondays!
May your coffee be strong and your bulldog tenacity stronger.
Fall decor is popping up everywhere!
The temps are very much in summer mode but I think they are about to give in to the pumpkin spice!
This gorgeous fall swag I made a couple years has been trending big time on Pinterest and a few other websites so I thought I would do a reshare.
I love quick projects that capitalize on the "leftover" decor. Bits and pieces made this swag a stunner.
I will link the tutorial for you!

Mix it! Thursday's tip -
Have a memorable trip or family favorite vacation spot?
Mix professional photos with "in the moment" photos!
This iconic spot was captured professionally (left) and in the moment of the trip (right).
The different photos tell the story well.
So next time you are out and about soaking up the local or vacation scenery- try to taking several photos from different angles and close ups of architecture. Pair it with a professional shot of the location and create a chic scrapbook gallery!
*you can apply this idea to any moment in any room. Think weddings, births, that marathon you trained for and completed. It's your life, your family, your home. the possibilities are endless!
Playing around with fabrics and artwork!
This tween bedroom is coming along, we are bidding the electric lavender a fond farewell and bringing in a palette that is a little more sophisticated but still playful.
This competitive talented dancer needs a space to hang out with friends, study, and practice her pirouettes!
And mom & dad need it to stay on budget!
Install day and reveal coming soon!!
It's been an incredible 10 days around here.
I had the pleasure of attending the conference in New York with a few of our Dallas/Fort Worth board members.
To say the trip was memorable feels understated but it absolutely was. From "laugh till your sides hurt" dinners to fun excursions in the city to learning more about Biophilia and how it plays a vital role in design (will be researching this deeper, fascinating talk) to winning a DOTY award and celebrating with a few hundred friends after.
It was my first time at the IDS conference and I am already looking forward to next year... in Toledo! ! inside joke. Carson Kressley had us in stitches.😂
Grateful to be a part of this special community. I loved getting to see and hug the necks of so many friends I have met online or at market who have been such inspiration.
I could continue gushing but...
Now it's back to the grind- so much good coming, including the official grand opening of .curated ,gorgeous projects wrapping up/in the cue to begin, and finding the new normal as an official empty nester(this topic is a post of its own!)
Have an amazing hump day- the weekend is in sight!
Today I wanted to share (the condensed version of) my Interior Design Society story.
Swipe through to read it- the condensed version was still too long for a post. 😂
This week is all about membership.
If you are a designer or work in the design industry and have been looking for connection- go to interiordesignsociety.org/join
If you are a member of IDS, now is also a perfect time to renew your membership!
I hope to see you at market or if you are based in North Texas- at our next meeting!
We have an amazing board who care for, support, cheer on and are constantly trying to make our local chapter the best it can be.
Can you tell I think they are top notch? Designers and Design Industry partners come to the meetings and see for yourself.
Who says stair risers have to be
boring or just utilitarian?
Spice up your steps with some stylish details and turn your staircase into a work of art!
l added a product called Overlays () to give a carved wood vibe to these risers. I love the look.
But…
You can achieve a show stopping look in others ways.
*Bold unexpected solid or gradient color
*Hand painted design
*Wallpaper (if the stairs are not used often)
*Tile
*Stencil
*Decoupage
The list goes on and on. So many ways and ideas to liven up a forgotten canvas!
Let's take the stairs to the next level, shall we?
Let Nature be your inspiration and watch as your walls come alive with color!
Nature never ceases to amaze me with its stunning color combinations - Let's take this beautiful Fortnight Lily. and swipe through to see what the palette looks like.
I used Colorsnap app to make this process easy peasy.
Don’t you love the vibrancy? Such a happy bold combo! But how would you incorporate it in a space?
Let’s talk about it. There are thousands of ways to use this palette to create a calm serene bedroom or go all out and deliver a highly energized living room perfect for lively conversations!
For a bedroom - I would paint the walls in Sky High or add a grasscloth wallpaper in a similar shade, bedding in Winsome grey , I would lean on a fabric choice that incorporated all the colors for drapery and accent pillows. Leapfrog reimagined in a cozy velvet for comfy chairs with gorgeous trim that highlighted the Loyal Blue or Sky High color.
Can you see this room coming together? So fabulous!
For a living room- I would take the brakes off! This room would be for lively memorable conversations. So, I would go big with Loyal Blue on the walls in a high gloss. Chesterfield sofas in Leap Frog. Pillows in solids and geometrics that incorporated Exuberant Pink, Free Spirit, Winsome Grey, and Sky High. I would throw in a few painted accent furnishings celebrating the bold hues and top it off with a fabulous fantastic chandelier with an organic modern vibe that highlighted milky soft gray glass and brush gold details.
Now that is just a quick assessment and a full design would need more details but WOW - how much fun is this?
