Greenland Hills Newsletter -- May 2, 2024 - 🌈🙌🎉 Celebrate Together this Sunday - Historic LGBTQ+ Bans Removed w/ Worship and Discussion over Cake at 10AM, White Elephant Auction at Noon, Together We Dine May 9th, and Summer Youth and Children's Opportunities
Tuesday, December 19th, was the last day for Greenland Hills Preschool. And while it sad to see the classrooms empty, we know that the work that has been accomplished by dozens of staff, hundreds of volunteers and families, and our children has made a difference over thirteen years.
As we scroll back through our Facebook photos and looked through the classrooms today we see clearly the impact the small, inclusive, and nurturing environment of our school has made in the lives of children, families, and staff.
We want to thank the staff who have served throughout our thirteen years. And we especially want to thank Ashley Beakey, who served as our Director and worked tirelessly to help us try to redevelop after some difficult staffing transitions over the Summer. Qyanha Kolb and Myesha Ellison nurtured and loved our students well during this semester.
While we don’t know what it coming next, a team is at work creatively planning the good we'll be about using our space. This may mean partnering with a high-quality early childhood education partner. Stay tuned!
We hope you’ll look through the Facebook photos and witness the great work that has been accomplished for our children. And pray for our team as we discern the next right steps for our building on a rich legacy of care for children.

The Dallas Arboretum is such a wonderful place for family Fun!!!
Today for Wildlife Wednesday we wanted to share the importance that artificial lights have on Migrating Birds…
It’s not possible to eliminate all artificial lighting, but everyone can do something small to help….
Ways to Contribute to Lights Out:
• Turn off exterior decorative lighting
• Extinguish pot and flood-lights
• Substitute strobe lighting wherever possible
• Reduce atrium lighting wherever possible
• Turn off interior lighting especially on higher stories
• Down-shield exterior lighting to eliminate horizontal glare and all light directed upward
• Install automatic motion sensors and controls wherever possible
• When converting to new lighting assess quality and quantity of light needed, avoiding over-lighting with newer, brighter technology
Healthy, physically active kids are more likely to be motivated, alert, and successful. Come tour GHP, Today!!

Welcome to the team, Ms. Qyanha Kolb! Ms. Qyahna brings vibrant energy and care to her PreK 2 and Bridge Classroom.
Qyahna shares this, "My passion for early childhood education was sparked when I began working at an indoor soft play arena. I join the team with three years of experience teaching Pre-Kindergarten. I love watching students master new skills, inspiring them to try new things, and watching them grow as individuals. My Education: I graduated from Winfree Academy Charter School in Lewisville in 2019. Fun Fact: I grew up on a quail farm in Wills Point, Texas. I played volleyball and was a cheerleader for 12 years - all the way into high school. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and spending quality time with my younger cousins."
Come meet Ms. Qyahna at the Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, September 5th!

About Us
A ministry of Greenland Hills UMC, serving families with children ages 2 years through PreK/PreK Bridge.
We celebrate the uniqueness of each child and design curriculum to help every student grow in each stage of development: intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and physically.
We believe young children learn best through play and exploration. We focus on the processes of learning, not the end product, and building the skills needed to make students successful as they continue to learn through the years. We make learning fun through hands-on activities, play-based learning centers, art, science, cooking, music, free play exploration inside/outside, and school-wide thematic units that encourage creativity and community.
Children, teachers, staff, and parents come together to make a difference in our community and our world through small service projects through the year that teach children about the joy and importance of helping others.
