In the West Texas area for awhile so I decided to try expand my night photography skills since the night skies here are perfect for it! So, here’s one attempt of many while I am here.
‘Land really is the best art.’
-Andy Warhol
Best part of landscape photography is it captures the beauty of the land. This was one of the coolest spots to shoot for landscape shots at the 06 spring photography workshop. ❤️
Spring time in west Texas is the best time to find cactus in bloom! This cactus was overflowing with blooms 😍! Taken during 06 spring workshop.
Finally got around to looking at my night time photos from the 06 spring workshop and wanted to share this photo with y’all! I caught several photos with a red streak across each frame. This one is in the upper left frame. I am thinking it could be the star links going across the sky.
Did you know jackrabbits are considered hares instead of rabbits? They also can go as fast as ~40 mph. Took this shot during the spring 06 spring workshop.
There’s something about black and white photos that are magical! I’m still working on my technique to improve my landscapes shots but I wanted to share this with y’all because the views were spectacular in this area during the 06 spring workshop!
These foals, mamas and stallion were so dang adorable and very curious! These were from the spring workshop at the 06 ranch. 🐴
Finished going through majority of my photos from the spring workshop at the 06 ranch. Here’s a few photos of the remuda being pushed to a few spots along the ranch! I’ll post another set of photos soon.
This Tom Turkey was working real hard to swoon this Hen Turkey in the background. It was quite a show he put on! It was hard to get a good photo of his front feathers fanned out (I did get one decent one) because the Hen would always be somewhere else and he would have his rear end like this in the photo 😂
I am going through some of my photos from this last weekend at the photography workshop and picking out some of my favorites! Here’s one I really enjoy and wanted to share. This foal was so intrigued and very curious with the noises my camera was making that some of the expressions were awesome! 🐴
This aoudad was just leisurely walking down on a dirt road with a buddy but they finally decided to dart at a trot up the side the hill after I caught this image! 🐐
Took a trip to Fort Davis for Shooting West Texas Photography Workshops and had a great time! It was a bit of a different trip but finding the beauty in the land always makes me happy as a photographer! I will be working on a few of my photos over the next week and put them out for y’all to enjoy. 🦃🐎🐂🦌
All the claret cups were in full bloom a couple weeks ago when I took a visit to the Ft Davis/Alpine, TX area! The scientific name of this type of cactus is Echinocereus Triglochidiatus. The cool part about it is the part “echinos” is Greek and means hedgehog. That is why sometimes they are also called red-flowered hedgehog cactus. 🌵
Claret Cup Cactus just about to open up its bloom 🌵
If you’ve never been in the West Texas area when the flowers are in bloom, make sure to have it on your calendar because this time of year is fantastic with all the different blooms. This is a claret cup cactus🌵
A group of chipmunks are called scurry 🐿️

Hummingbirds are neat little creatures! Caught this female hummer last spring while she was buzzing around to collect last remaining items to lay her eggs in the nest. ❤️
Another small town deal! Nocona, Texas is known for their boots and baseball gloves! If you haven’t traveled through, it’s neat place to stop since both factories are there in the town! ⚾️👢
I love driving through small towns because of all the neat things they hold! Found this theater while I passed through and had to stop to photograph it! On one of the posters, it was advertising an old time Dracula movie. 📽️🎞️
One thing I like about Herons is they’re easy to photograph. I have noticed they don’t just fly off like ducks do if spooked. This guy was walking around trying to catch his meal while I sat and watched him for about 10 minutes. 🐟
Did you know Aoudad, also known as, Barbary sheep are not native to Texas! They were brought in by the Texas Parks and Wildlife in the 1950s from Northern Africa as an additional opportunity for hunting. They are definitely neat animals with long fringe on the front of their chest. 🐏
Wanted to share this Scrub Jay photo with y’all😍
It’s been awhile since I posted something so I wanted to share this photo with y’all! 🌼
‘Nature’s beauty is a gift that cultivates appreciation and gratitude.’
-Louie Schwartzberg
Stopped by the Hagerman NWR yesterday to see if there was anything interesting and it didn’t disappoint! The Snow and Ross geese were in abundance (it is that time of year). Also, saw a few other types of birds along the drive like ducks, herons, Canadian geese and red-winged black birds. One of my favorites is always the heron because they usually are tolerant enough to stay put long enough to photograph.
One of my photos got recognized for the Twin Sisters Award on the photo contest for 2023! I am so grateful they chose one of my photos! I want to say thank you to Shooting West Texas Photography Workshops for putting on such a wonderful workshop in the spring and fall on the 06 ranch and the Lacy family for allowing us to come photograph their ranch!! This is sooo exciting! 🎉
Took a trip to the Great Smoky Mountians National Park earlier this fall as the leaves started to change colors! The views were fantastic and highly recommend making a trip to that area! 🍁
Just a slice of heaven 🌵
