What actually happens to your eyes if you look directly at the sun during the total solar eclipse? If you don’t use proper protection while viewing the eclipse, you could burn your eyes, an optometrist explains.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! We are open this week if you need to use your benefits before the year comes to an end.

Yearly eye exam in children is a must. Don't rely just on school vision screening as they are not enough. Their performance in school can suffer due to undetected eye problems. Good news is that most eye problems can be corrected once detected.
Good vision is essential to better learning. Call our office to set an appointment before school starts.
If you have diabetes, you can take three important steps to prevent vision loss from diabetic eye disease:
1.Watch and control your blood sugar levels
2.Take care of yourself
3.See an eye doctor at least once a year
If you spend a lot of time at the computer or focusing on any one thing, you sometimes forget to blink and your eyes can get fatigued. Try the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds. This can help reduce eyestrain.

Everyone will have cataracts if they live long enough.
Cataracts are like gray hair. It's a natural result of aging.
The eye muscle is the fastest reacting muscle in the body.
It contracts in less than 1/100th of a second. Maybe that's why people say "in the blink of an eye".
You not only see with your eyes, but also with your brain. The "visual processing center" is called the occipital lobe.
Found in the back portion of the brain, damage to the visual areas of the occipital lobe can leave a person with fractional or complete blindness.
Having 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean you have perfect vision. It only indicates the distance and sharpness of clarity, but doesn't include other vision skills such as peripheral vision, eye coordination depth perception, focusing ability and color perception.

Why Do Optometrists Blow Puffs of Air Into Your Eye? I’m basically blind without my contacts, so every year I dutifully schlep to the optometrist to get my eyes tested and outfitted for a new prescription. And every year, I dread it—not just because of the pressure to read the tiniest lines without squinting (just me?), but because of the part of the…

What Doctors Can Tell About Your Health Just By Looking At Your Eyes Windows to your health.
Time is running out! Only have few days left to use your unused benefits before you lose them. Call our office for an appointment.
Don’t Ignore Eye Problems
If your eyes are itchy or red, soothe them with cold compresses, antihistamines, or eye drops. If you feel grittiness, like there’s sand in your eye, rinse with clean water or saline. See a doctor if symptoms continue, or if you have eye pain, secretions, swelling, or sensitivity to light. Other reasons to see a doctor: dark floating spots, flashes of light, or any time you can't see normally.
Clean Your Contact Lenses
Take care of your eyes by taking care of your contacts. Always wash your hands before handling lenses. Use only cleaners and drops approved by your eye doctor. Clean, rinse, and dry the case each time you remove the lenses, and replace it every two to three months. Don’t leave daily wear lenses in while you sleep. And don’t wear lenses longer than recommended.
Get Regular Eye Exams
Whether or not you wear glasses, get eye exams every 1-2 year if you're between ages 21 and 40. Contact lens wearers and anyone over 40 should get checkups every year. These exams should include dilation, where your eye doctor uses drops to widen your pupils to look inside for any damage or disease. Many common eye diseases, such as glaucoma or retinal problems due to age or diabetes, give no early warning signs. Some experts say young kids should have a complete eye exam at age 3, another one before first grade, and then every two years thereafter.
