Today marks the grand opening of the Intuit Dome, the new home of the L.A. Clippers, and we're thrilled to have played a pivotal role in bringing this iconic project to life!

At ETS, we delivered a comprehensive design-build solution that included the engineering, design, fabrication, and installation of the striking diagrid tensile membrane facade system that defines the Main Arena. The structure, adorned with diamond-shaped PTFE mesh panels and large PTFE laminate panels, creates an unforgettable visual impact, inspired by the motion of a basketball passing through a net.

But our work didn't stop there! We also constructed the Plaza Trellis, a shaded oasis featuring twisted PTFE sails, and the sleek Escalator Canopies, which guide fans as they enter and exit the West Garage under a single-skin ETFE canopy.

The Intuit Dome is more than just an arena; it's an experience. We're proud to have contributed to its dynamic exterior, enhancing the fan journey with the versatility and beauty of tensile membrane structures.

Why is our 'Base Plates Up' approach the best choice for tensile membrane structures? Hear it directly from our leaders at ETS. By controlling every aspect from the foundation to the cladding, we ensure efficiency and seamless coordination on-site.

"Our preference is to design the entire structure, from the base plates of the columns all the way up through the cladding system. It's important to do that from the standpoint of making sure the interface is correct, that the material and the structure match." - Garry Becker, Executive Vice President

Join us as we delve into the complexities and benefits of our lightweight long-span projects. Featuring insights from our VP of Engineering, Steve Neidig, and our VP of Design Engineering, Ian Wright, explore the importance of tension components and precise coordination in tensile structures.

"You've got cables, you've got secondary steel, you've got cladding... How does the structure move? How does it deform under load? There’s a complexity to the full package that, if you separate, there's room for error." - Ian Wright (VP of Design Engineering)

Integrating the design and construction of both the skin and the structure is the key to achieving optimized performance, efficiency, and structural integrity. Here’s why this approach is best for your project:

✔️ Coordinated Engineering – Combining the tensile membrane with the supporting structure ensures all loads and deflections are accurately accounted for, preventing issues and ensuring structural stability.

✔️ Comprehensive Scope – Handling everything from "base plates up" or "pin in" allows us to control the entire process—design, fabrication, and erection—resulting in seamless integration and higher-quality outcomes.

✔️ Efficient Process – By managing both the skin and the structure, we eliminate the inefficiencies and potential errors that arise when these components are handled separately.

✔️ Optimized Performance – Our unified approach ensures that all elements work together harmoniously, providing better control and improved performance throughout the project's lifespan.

Integrating the skin and structure from the start ensures every component works in harmony, delivering superior results. Explore our latest projects to see the ETS difference in action at ets-na.com

The transformation of JMA Wireless Dome (formerly Carrier Dome) in Syracuse, New York is a testament to ETS's capability to deliver state-of-the-art structural solutions.

The task involved replacing the original 220-ton air-inflated roof with a sophisticated 260,000 sqft metal-fabric hybrid structure. The new design features a semi-translucent PTFE membrane, supported by an intricate arrangement of hybrid lock coil cable trusses and arching steel tubes. This design not only enhances the dome's visual appeal but also its structural resilience.

The transition from the old to the new roof commenced in March 2020, with the installation of the new system finalized just in time for Syracuse University's football season opener in September of the same year. This project timeline underscores ETS's commitment to efficiency and precision in project ex*****on.

Beyond its aesthetic and structural attributes, the new roof introduces significant operational efficiencies. The shift from an air-supported to a cable-net-supported structure eliminates the need for continuous air pressure, resulting in substantial energy and cost savings for the university. The PTFE membrane's semi-translucency introduces natural lighting to the stadium, reducing energy consumption even more.

The JMA Wireless Dome's roof is a beacon of sustainable and innovative design, reflecting ETS's dedication to pushing the boundaries of engineering and architectural design.

This year marks the 5th anniversary of Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The 19,400-seat capacity soccer stadium is home to the city's Major League Soccer club, Minnesota United FC. The $250 million stadium was designed by the renowned sports architecture firm, Populous, with assistance from engineering firm Walter P Moore.

Allianz Field features a brilliantly simple design with a semi-translucent PTFE membrane facade that envelops its undulating steel frame. The completed building has a sleek, modern aesthetic that appears quite different from day to night.

ETS fabricated and installed the 93,540-square-foot tensile membrane facade around the stadium. Crafted from a specially developed PTFE material, this innovative membrane reflects sunlight, giving the facade a silver appearance during the day, and becomes semi-translucent in the evening. Integral to this design is a steel support structure embedded with 1,700 computer-controlled LED lights, capable of producing vibrant light shows that enhance the stadium's modern aesthetic.

As we reflect on this milestone, we thank our partners and the dedicated team at ETS for their commitment to excellence. We look forward to bringing more visionary projects to life in the future✨

Located in the heart of Atlanta, at the transportation hub for the Georgia World Congress Center, this canopy is a stunning 21,000 sqft PTFE and AESS structure.

As a central hub for the complex, the canopy isn't just functional; it's a progressive and eye-catching structure. The ETS team delivered a comprehensive design-build solution that balanced cost-effectiveness with aesthetic appeal and durability.

The choice of PTFE membrane is ideal for long-clear span structures like this canopy, offering over 30 years of life expectancy. Its translucent nature ensures just the right amount of light diffusion, reducing solar gain while providing a pleasantly lit and shaded area for users – a welcome feature in Atlanta's hot and sunny climate.

We're proud to have played a key role in enhancing the Georgia World Congress Center's infrastructure, ensuring a comfortable and aesthetic transit experience.

The Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown proudly welcomes guests under a vast canopy measuring 124′ x 175′ and with a stunning 95’ Oculus opening. This architectural marvel not only has aesthetic appeal but also serves as a functional shelter. It dramatically casts light upon a DNA double helix sculpture by Atlanta artist Martin Dawe, symbolizing the core of life sciences.

ETS provided design-assist services for the engineering of this PTFE membrane structure centered around an impressive oculus. The entrance canopy is supported by a series of low-profile arching trusses. Each truss is bolt-spliced together on-site and spans the 124’ opening, creating the Oculus opening with slope-profiled faces. Four large tensioned PTFE panels clad the top, while a louvered wood slat soffit by others clad the underside. At the Oculus ring, 128 segmented and trapezoidal clear anodized metal panels clad the sloped faces between the 83’ diameter lower ring and the 95’ diameter upper ring. ETS's involvement ensured a cost-effective, long-lasting solution that aligned with the budget goals and replaced the original glazed entrance canopy design.

This canopy is not just a structure; it's a symbol of hope and innovation, welcoming patients and visitors to the Winship Cancer Institute. It blends artistic beauty with practical functionality, standing as a beacon of excellence in healthcare infrastructure.

ETS is proud to contribute to such meaningful projects that combine art, science, and engineering. We look forward to continuing our journey of transforming spaces with innovative structures.
