Happy Native American Heritage Month!!🚀💜
In honor of this month, we are spotlighting John Herrington, the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to fly into space!!
John Herrington, a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma, in 1958. After joining the U.S. Navy in 1984, he attended the Navy’s test pilot school, earned a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering, and was selected as an astronaut in 1996.
In 2002, Herrington flew as a mission specialist on STS-113, the 112th space shuttle mission, marking a historic milestone as the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to travel to space. During the 13-day mission, he honored his heritage by carrying the Chickasaw Nation flag and performed three spacewalks.
After retiring from NASA in 2005, Herrington began traveling across the country as an inspirational speaker.

We would like to congratulate on their engineering feat with catching Starship rocket booster back at the launch pad.
The largest and most powerful rocket ever constructed soared into the sky once more—and this time, it returned. The mission sought to make history for Starship and spaceflight as a whole.
SpaceX set out to land the massive first-stage booster, Super Heavy, back on its launch mount using the tower’s arms, known as “chopsticks,” in a bold and innovative maneuver—and it was successful!

Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a Trailblazer in Flight: Mary Riddle ✈️👩🏽✈️
On this special day, we honor the contributions of Indigenous people to all fields, including aviation. Today, we’re highlighting Mary Riddle (Tuilnahan), one of the first Native American women to earn her pilot’s license in 1930. As a member of the Clatsop and Quinault tribes, Mary soared above the barriers of her time, becoming a pioneer not only in flight but also as a parachutist, inspiring many through her passion for the skies.
Her achievements remind us that the spirit of exploration and courage knows no bounds. We celebrate her legacy and the path she paved for future generations of Indigenous aviators.
Happy International Day of the Girl!👩🏻✈️👩🏽🚀👩🏼🔬Today we celebrate the bold, brilliant girls who dream big and aim high—just like the stars they reach for in aerospace! 🚀💫🌎
At FOFM, we believe the sky is not the limit. Let’s empower the next generation of innovators, engineers, pilots, and astronauts to soar even higher. 🌟✈️
Girls, the universe is waiting for you! Keep dreaming, keep exploring, and never stop reaching for the stars. 🌠💪

This week we welcomed our Red Vest Volunteer docents to their Fall Picnic!🍂🎃🧺 It was the perfect time to announce Eric, our new Lead Volunteer and thank our amazing team for volunteering over 15,000 hours this year.
FOFM IS SO GRATEFUL! ❤️❤️❤️
It’s been one week since and we’re still not over it!🤍💚🩵
Thank you so much to our friends at !
It was a great day - the FOFM team hung out at the Anatole, filming live with 110 Microsoft team members at their National Soar Conference. They helped us build STEM kits, and they built bikes in under three minutes (a corporate record I might add!); all for those we teach, advocate and provide access to Aerospace STEM pathways in our education programs from Title One Schools. Microsoft teams wrote thank you cards to over 500 volunteers who help us do what we do to serve the community every day. 🔭🧑🔬🧑💻
Their volunteer hours equate to over $16,000 with a match on ! Thank you so much.
💡Fun fact about building bikes: The Wright brothers didn’t start with planes… they built bikes! 🚲 In the late 1800s, bicycles were everywhere, yet the Wright brothers created the “safety bike”, one with two equal sized tires. The more you know!
THANK YOU! 🩵💚💌
To our donors who helped raise $80,535 on for our Women in Aerospace & Aviation Exhibit, Girls Aerospace STEM Challenge and to support our efforts to make every visit to the Frontiers of Flight Museum an out-of-this-world experience….
