Nationally the is at 4, but what does that mean exactly?
There are five preparedness levels, ranging from 1 as the lowest to 5 as the highest. As preparedness levels rise, so does the need for incident management teams and suppression resources, which include wildland fire crews, engines, support personnel, helicopters, airtankers and other aircraft, and specialized heavy equipment, such as bulldozers.
The National Multi-Agency Coordination Group establishes the levels throughout the year to ensure suppression resource availability for emerging incidents across the country.

A Heat Advisory is now in effect through 7PM Wednesday for all of North and Central Texas. Continue to take the necessary precautions to keep you, your loved ones, and your pets safe from the heat!
Emerald ash borer (EAB) have been confirmed in 24 Texas counites. EAB are a destructive, invasive pest that preys exclusively on ash trees. The pest was first confirmed in Texas in Harrison County in 2016.
🌳Taking proactive measures in education and prevention can help slow the spread of EAB. Strategically planting diverse Texas adapted trees will make it harder for EAB to establish itself in surrounding ash trees.
🪵Burning firewood where you buy it is crucial to slowing the spread of EAB, since they can survive up to two years after a tree is cut down. Other invasive pests can also hitch a ride on firewood and infect new areas when it is transported.

The fire environment will trend warmer, drier and windier across the Texas High Plains and northern Rolling Plains through Sunday ahead of a cold front passage on Monday.
As fuel moisture decreases, wildfire activity may occur on Saturday in the High Plains and the upper Rolling Plains.
Sunday’s fire environment will support wildfire activity in the High Plains and any new ignitions may have high resistance to control when burning in dry grasses and when subjected to well above normal temperatures and high winds.

Yesterday you may have seen a large airplane flying low over Southwest Dallas. That was a Large Air Tanker or LAT. The LAT was there in response to the 12.5 acre wildfire named “Cedar Hill Fire” that was burning at Cedar Ridge Preserve.
“Large airtankers are sometimes referred to as “Next Gen” airtankers. They carry between 2,000 to 4,000 gallons of fire retardant or water in support of wildland firefighters on the ground. These aircraft are smaller than the VLAT and are more maneuverable.” From NIFC.gov
