Life is hard. Nonetheless, our capacity for overcoming hardships is rather extraordinary. While traumatic experiences that lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can negatively influence or change our brains, newly positive learning experiences can help our brains to improve. When we carefully and measuredly expose ourselves in small doses to something we fear, we don't become less afraid. Instead, we become increasingly braver. Likewise, in a more relaxed setting, breaking a big goal into smaller, more attainable goals keeps us motivated and boosts our confidence. As well as creates new neuro-pathways in our brains and increases our likeliness of success and repeating the process.
Unlike good-natured ribbings, insults are deliberate offenses (acts or words) to the receiver's dignity or self-respect.
Because they have an edge and a sneer, insults convey contempt.
Insults are mean-spirited and minimized or dismissed after the receiver's push back.
