. My sewing journey began at the age of 45, with the simple act of learning to thread a needle. Little did I know, this marked the beginning of an incredible adventure.

In the early days, I struggled to navigate the intricacies of my sewing machine and understand the basics of fabric selection. But with persistence and dedication, I gradually gained confidence in my abilities. I devoured online tutorials and sewing books, determined to master the craft.

As my skills improved, I discovered a new passion for quilting. There's something therapeutic about piecing together fragments of fabric to create a beautiful, functional work of art. I found joy in selecting colors, patterns, and textures, watching a quilt come to life under my fingertips.

However, my true passion lies in upcycling discarded clothing. I'm fascinated by the potential hidden within old, worn-out garments. Transforming them into unique, eco-friendly creations not only reduces waste but also tells a story. Every stitch, every seam, and every detail holds a memory, making each piece truly special.

Through my journey, I've learned that sewing is more than just a skill – it's a journey of self-discovery, creativity, and sustainability. I've gained a new appreciation for the art of slowing down, working with my hands, and giving old materials new life.

Upcycled Gap jeans size 10 distressed with handmade patriotic patches

I went thrifting yesterday I found 3 pair of jeans that I will upcycle. 1. Gap cheeky straight high rise size 10L 1. men’s 505 Levi’s 32x32, and men’s Levi’s signature 547 38x30( great for creating the baggy oversized look. For making patches I found an old hand tied quilt some of the squares are tattered and torn, but I can use a lot of the vintage fabric for patches, a small blanket, a curtain with birds, flowers and music notes and a dress with a beautiful green embroidery design. Ps. Best jeans for distressing and fraying 100% cotton, not the stretchy spandex material it doesn’t fray well.

Have you ever seen Magnolia Pearl brand clothing? I’m in love with the jeans. The price tags a different story. $500.00 -600.00 for a pair. Look them up they are adorable. Can’t afford them so I’m inspired to create my own version. What a mess I have going on right now. Since I couldn’t find any fabric with birds on it to use for appliqués I am making them from my stash of scraps. linen is one of those fabrics that just feel good to wear. A few summers back everyone was wearing the wide leg pant version where the length dragged to the floor almost. Every pair I tried on was a mile to long for my 5’4” frame. I’m guessing by the volume I’m seeing in thrift stores now, quite a few of us had similar problems. Today they are all over Pinterest in the cropped version, some with ruffles, some ankle length and some capri length. I’m loving the cropped ankle length with ruffles. Here’s a pair I refashioned. I cut them off right below the knee area, then I added the ruffles using a tiered skirt. The bottom layer on the skirt measured about 6 inches, which was perfect to make the ankle length. Do you like the cropped linen look as much as I do?

April is a great month for gifting aprons. It’s time for working in the flowers, planting a garden or just tidying up the yard. I made three last week from thrifted items I reconstructed. I gifted them to three special women in my life, my Mom and both of my sisters. Mom’s was made using a women’s cotton gown, a curtain valence and a pillow sham. For Rita’s I used a mens button down shirt and a pair of old jeans. Risa’s was made using a cute scrub top she thrifted a while back.
