I value having these local donations to assist host families with hosting costs and even to purchase a box of diapers when returning a child to a parent just getting back on their feet. A host family has welcomed a toddler into care this evening to give mom some much needed respite. We are so thankful for our generous hosts that make it possible for us to do what we do. ❤️

An infant has been welcomed into hosting today. Prayers appreciated for both families during this transition.

🍂 Fall is a time of change and our chapter has seen a lot of that lately! 🍁 We are so proud of the parents we serve! Our chapter highlights over the past few months include new housing 🏡 , GED classes, 🏫 nursing school, salvation ✝️ and baptism, new babies born, 👶 forever friendships established, and many prayers over it all. Come join us in assisting families making monumental changes in their lives.

20 years ago, founder Dave Anderson wondered if families would use their homes as vehicles of HOSPITALITY to serve vulnerable children and parents. The answer is YES with over 76,000 hosting arrangements to keep children safe and families together!

Safe Families for Children was founded with the belief that Radical Hospitality displayed by the Church could transform and heal communities. We celebrate that core value and thank the thousands of volunteers who have opened their hearts and homes to support families facing crisis situations.

We are celebrating 20 Years of the Safe Families movement! Over this time, we have grown to over 100 chapters nationwide serving local communities to help keep children safe and families together.

We are excited to partner with our local Toys for Tots today at the Casey Popcorn Festival Jeep Jam! All cash donations will go to Safe Families for Children East Central IL to help serve our local families needing their children hosted due to crisis, medical needs, and housing transition. Social awareness is the ability to empathize with and understand the perspective of someone else, even though their background and culture might differ from yours. It's vital to understand the viewpoint of another person's feelings, intentions, thoughts, or views of a particular situation. At Safe Families, we value social awareness to increase a healthy understanding of diverse families and cultures.

Here are some ways adults can support kids to practice social awareness, perspective-taking, and empathy at home:

1. Read books with your kids and talk about how the characters are feeling and reacting. Identify the emotions and then talk about why the character feels that way or how you know.

2. Talk about your own emotions with your kids. Label your feelings and explain what made you feel that way. If you have negative emotions, talk about what would help you to feel better.

3. If a conflict arises, ask your child to think about how the other person might feel.

Gratitude runs both ways! We feel extremely thankful for all the parents who trust Safe Families as a partner in building strong, resilient families so children can thrive in the home.

At Safe Families, we believe engaging in relationships and finding community with one another helps combat social isolation and improves a parent's ability to care for their children.

As many families get ready to go back to school, it is vital that all parents feel supported as they seek to educate their children.
Share this video with your community network and help us serve more families! We partner with schools to wrap Circles of Support around families so children can be safe and stay out of the foster care system.

Churches are the backbone of the Safe Families movement. We are so thankful for the many churches that are willing to invest in families to help keep children safe and parents supported!

This is why we exist! Our goal is to support parents before a crisis situation so children remain safe and averted from EVER having to enter the foster care system.

Forced removals can have a profoundly negative impact on children, and research consistently shows that the younger the child is when he/she is removed from the family, the worse the situation. Join the Safe Families movement to keep children safe and families together!

We often get thank-you notes after a hosting but this "takes the cake."

What a privilege it is to open our hearts and homes to help keep children safe and families together!

Did you know that social isolation can increase the risk of premature death by almost 30% as well as increase anxiety, depression, and even a person's perception of stress?

But on the contrary, social connection can increase health outcomes by reducing anxiety, depression, and risk-taking behavior, leading to economic upward mobility.

This is why we exist! We walk alongside parents building relationships and social connections to help them get back on their feet and keep their families together!
