We’ve almost reached our fundraising goal of $20,000! Thank you to those families that have already made a donation. Through your generous support we’ve raised over $16,000 - just $4,000 shy of our target! If all Holmes families give just $20 we’ll reach our fundraising goal. Help us achieve 100% Holmes family participation and make your donation today. Let’s do this together to raise $20,000 by March 11!
The donations that we have received have helped to fund this year’s enrichment activities, including visits by the Whalemobile, The Magic of Science, Mad Science and High Touch High Tech. We depend on the support and generosity of our Holmes families to fund not only these activities, but also field trips, author visits, classroom supplies, teacher appreciation gifts and so much more! The PTO spends $175 per student to provide educational and fun programs and resources to our children. We need your donation so that we can continue to create an exciting and inspiring educational environment for Holmes School students.
Donate today via Paypal (link in stories/flowpage) or via check made out to “Holmes School PTO” and drop in the mailbox at 73 Greenleaf Avenue.
All donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of our school!
The Board of Education (BOE) meeting has been RESCHEDULED TO 7.30PM ON THURSDAY FEBRUARY 15TH. The meeting marks the last opportunity for you to make your voice heard by the BOE! After public comment at the top of the meeting, board members vote line-by-line on each proposed modification (aka the add / cut list) to the Superintendent’s proposed budget, and then vote to adopt the budget as a whole. Please consider making a public comment or email the BOE ([email protected]) to share your thoughts and opinions ahead of Thursday’s vote. Agenda with virtual meeting links and all 2024-2025 budget materials can be found at https://www.darienps.org/board-of-education.
We will be putting the Lost and Found table and rack out by the flagpole area each day this week (not tomorrow due to snow cancellation) and we encourage families to look for lost items when they come to pick up.
Among many other items, there are lots of Darien team sweatshirts, lovely winter coats, cozy sweaters and sweatshirts, and a plethora of high quality water bottles. Please, please take a look!
On Thursday, February 15th, any items still in the Lost and Found will be donated by the PTO to a local charity. Please check to be sure your family does not have any missing items prior to leaving for February Break!

January 30 (Tuesday) is a crucial Board Of Education meeting to modify the proposed budget. Many cuts will affect all elementary schools. The proposed cuts are:
-Reducing Instructional classroom Aides to 2 total per school- which means having fewer teacher helpers and backup classroom support i.e., proposed 1 teacher per classroom vs 1 teacher and 1 helper per classroom.
-Reduce special teachers (i.e., music, art, Spanish, PE) by 2.4 teachers- remaining teachers would commute between schools on an unknown schedule. Quality education requires consistent teachers. These classes are a gift to students and a reason Darien has an excellent reputation. We should encourage and support these classes and teachers, not eliminate them.
-If you have 5th graders, the proposed cut of an entire teaching team at Middlesex will affect your students in the coming year..
Our voices matter; we elect our Board of Education as a community to represent us and our interests. share your views in person at the BOE meeting on Tuesday at 7 pm, via Zoom, and/or email the BOE- [email protected].
We would love to have as many Holmes parents attend the meeting as possible. If you can attend, please wear Holmes colors to support our school, and all the other incredible educators in our town, and the Holmes community.
Congratulations to Mrs. Costanza & Mrs. Soisson’s classes for winning the gummy worm challenge 🐛

🆘 The Darien Public School FY25 proposed budget could have specific impacts on HOLMES including:
➡️reduction of instructional aides to a total of two for our school
➡️merging two Special Ed positions to create one K-12 Special Ed Director
➡️eliminating six teachers from MMS which could mean the reduction of one team (this impacts current Holmes 4th or 5th graders)
➡️eliminating 2.4 FTE for specials teachers (art, gym, music).
🗣️ Please share your views on these proposed changes with our Principal, our PTO Chairs, by emailing the Board of Ed or by speaking during Public Comment.
