Wow! What a night of witty, thought-provoking, inspirational songs and stories from husband and wife duo, Catherine Miles & Jay Mafale. I knew that the hard rains would keep some away, but it was one of the best shows this season. They even offered raffled a bottle of Montepulciano; look that one up. Thank you Catherine & Jay. Nine years was too long a wait to bring back Zoe Mulford! Thank you for being able to fill our December schedule on such short notice. What a night of stories, sing-a-longs and songs (some I never heard before), including Because She Wants To, Sunrise Susquehanna, Lady of the Highway, Sister Sail, The President Sang Amazing Grace, Mister Roger's Bananas, and Answer the Knock At the Door.
Thank you Shelton & Williams(Johnny & Jeanette Williams and Jay Shelton) for such an enjoyable evening of bluegrass, folk, rock/pop, gospel and disco (yes - disco). Such sweet voices, tight 3-part harmonies and some pretty good guitar licks from Jay and Johnny. Some of the songs I loved included Black Diamond Strings, 1952 Vincent Black Lightning, I Will Survive (by Gloria Gaynor), My Father's Hands, Don't Cry Blue (done by Jonathan Edwards), The Long Black Veil, and the a ca****la I've Made It Home. See you at the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance conference in Black Mountain, NC in May.
What an amazing show!! Most people ever at a Deer Creek show - 112. Thank you Dave & J.P. for your stories, your humor, your chemistry on stage and your WOW musicianship and songs, including Katie O' the Gowrie, Broom of the Cowdenknowes, These Hands, Songbird Valley, Tom Pacheco's "There Was a Time" and those hangin' songs, Home to Mary and Johnny Armstrong. What's a folk show without a couple of hangin' songs. There wasn't a bad song all night.
Want an amazing 100th show and start to our 12th season! Thanks to all of our loyal patrons who came out last night and supported us all these years. And thanks to Martyn Joseph for his wonderful spirit and songs including, Nye, The Glass, I've Searched For You and Springsteen's, If I Should Fall Behind.
Thanks, Robbie, for letting us take the load off a little and bringing joy with your music. How can we keep from singing?
Playing For Change | The Weight featuring Robbie Robertson and Ringo… Special thanks to our partner Cambria® for helping to make this possible and to Robbie Robertson, Ringo Starr and all the musicians for joining us in celebrating 50 years of this classic song.
What an amazing way to close out our 11th. Thank you David Lamotte for your songs including Shadows, Coming Alive Again, and The Way It's Done, your poems Still and White Flour (children's book) and your inspiration. And thank you to all our patrons who have made this concert series such a success.
Can't believe that I've waited this long to bring Rj Cowdery to Deer Creek. Thank you for your gift and enduring through the show after your recent surgery. Where else can you hear these quality songs as they are meant to be heard. I loved just about every song Rj played including her own, "Is There Time", "What If This Is All There Is", "Far Away", covers "Across The Great Divide" by Kate Bush and "When I Find All Of You" by J Wagner. Last but not least was her touching ending tribute "You Are My Sunshine" (on her mom's headstone) segwaying into "I'll Fly Away". She reminded so much of Nancy Griffith.
Just a reminder that singer-songwriter, Rj Cowdery (www.rjcowdery.com), will grace the Deer Creek stage this Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 pm. Rj is motivated by making people think, laugh, cry, and feel. Fans tell her its uncanny the way her songs seem to take a peek directly into their lives. Much like the Midwestern OH landscape she calls home, her songs are stories of middle ground, and her tales are expressions of being in the midst of life. Hers are songs of acceptance.
That's why Rj has been honored and praised by the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, Bluebird Cafe, and NPR Mountain Stage and many other music venues and music reviewers.
Still good seats remain. Suggested donation is $15 for adults and $5 for youth. Only cash and checks made to Deer Creek Coffeehouse (deercreekfolk.com) are accepted. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Masks are optional. Baked goods and non-alcoholic beverages sold for a nominal fee. Reservations required thru Coffeehouse website.

Another one of my favorite folk singers, Gordon Lightfoot, has passed away. Some of his classics include "If I Could Read Your Mind", "Sundown", "Carefree Highway", "Early Morning Rain", "Rainy Day People", "A Song for A Winter's Night", "Beautiful", "For Lovin' Me", "Ribbon of Darkness", "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, my favorite, "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" and many others. When traveling TransCanada 1 from Calgary to Medicine Hat, Alberta I listened to Gord on the drive while reminiscing of the many summers I spent in Ralston, Alberta. What's your favorite Lightfoot song?
Gordon Lightfoot - Canadian Railroad Trilogy enhanced This is from a performance by Gordon Lightfoot on BBC TV. An intro and some extra effects have been added to enhance Lightfoot's famous trilogy.
What a nice tribute to Harry Belafonte. This is the first time I've seen this clip. Everyone, except Dylan, was seemingly enjoying the moment and the music - the way it should be. Such talent on stage!
Thank you Wyatt for such a sweet sound. Absolutely loved all the songs, especially "Love Says It Best", "Modern Day Drifter", "From Where I Stand" and your cover of "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues". Many thanks to Wyatt's friend, Todd Breck, joining in on harmonica; such a nice addition. See you at the Southeastern Regional Folk Alliance conference in early May.
Thank you, Claudia Nygaard, for such heartfelt and humorous stories and songs, including His Left Side, J.C., Big Country, Georgia Boy, Lucky Girl and Big Country. Such a treat to hear quality songwriting and storytelling.
Just a reminder that Nashville singer-songwriter, Claudia Nygaard (claudianygaard.com) will be performing this Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 pm. THE SHOW IS SOLD OUT, BUT WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING REQUESTS FOR THE WAIT LIST THRU OUR WEBSITE (deercreekfolk.com).
Nygaard, with her powerful, resonant, and deeply emotive amber honey voice, is a master at putting a tear in your eye with a song that breaks your heart, and then with a quick wit and an outlandish sense of humor, she’ll replace it with tears of laughter.

WOW! Such an amazing night with J.P. Cormier's mesmerizing guitar work and gut-busting stories. We are so glad you chose Deer Creek as your first Maryland performance. From Kelly's Mountain to Molly May to Little Wawa and from all the tributes to Stompin' Tom Connors, Ian & Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, Chet Atkins, Doc Watson and others. Nova Scotia is blessed to have you as one of its musical ambassadors.
Rest In Peace, David Crosby. Thank you for all your music, especially with The Byrds and CNS&Y/CSN. Just a few selections over his life.
