Mimi Rose is an absolutely terrific lady, with a big, fun, and wonderful personality. She approaches every day with enthusiasm and gusto, and is so much fun to be with. Mimi Rose is 10-11 years old, but in good condition and full of energy, which she loves to share with people. She enjoys all kinds of activities, especially brisk leash walks, snuggling and petting in a cozy bed, toys, and silly playtime.

Mimi Rose is a unique and beautiful Boston Terrier mix, and about 15 pounds. She would be fine as the only dog in her new home, or with a mellow and respectful other dog. It is just tragic that this great girl has been at the rescue for 2 years, when she will make someone a fantastic companion, and bring lots of fun and joy to a new family. Gracie Mae was rescued from the deplorable conditions of a backyard breeder, where she had been confined to a tiny cage stacked on top of others in a dark,barn-like structure. During her time there, she was deprived of love, care, and basic comfort, likely forced to have several litters before being given away.

When she came to us, she was overjoyed to finally be in a nurturing environment where she was cleaned up, properly fed, and showered with love and attention by our staff and volunteers. Gracie quickly revealed herself to be the sweetest, friendliest, and most affectionate little dog, always ready for cuddles. She also gets along well with other dogs.

Initially, Gracie wasn’t eating, so we took her to the vet for an urgent examination. She underwent a thorough check-up, including a f***l test, Flex 4 test, and bloodwork. The vet also treated her for ear infections. Gracie had developed blisters between several of her toes, a condition often seen in dogs kept in cages for extended periods, and she was given medication to soothe the irritation.

Thankfully, shortly after her treatment, Gracie started to do very well. Her appetite returned, and she became a happy, healthy, and energetic pup. She had a second visit to the vet for her vaccines and a third visit for spaying, umbilical hernia repair, dental cleaning, and microchipping.

In total, the veterinary care for Gracie Mae came to about $1,210. We know this little girl is worth every penny, and with a face like hers, it won’t take long for her to find her forever family. In the meantime, we have to continually rely on your financial support in order to pay our credit card bill for veterinary care. We are excited to share that our Bella Mia has found her happily ever after, which isn’t terribly surprising when you see how beautiful she is!

Her new parents are absolutely smitten, and there is no denying these three were meant to become a family 🧡 Thank you to her mom and dad for choosing to adopt.

For such a petite girl, Maggie Rose sure has a big, adorable personality that makes us all smile. She is quite the character, and is vivacious, fun, and silly. This little beauty is sweet and friendly, and loves to hang out with people, receive gentle affection, belly rubs, and play silly hand games. It’s truly a joy spending time with her.

Maggie Rose is a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix, about 13 years old and 6 pounds. She has been at the rescue for 3 1/2 years. She was part of a bonded pair with her dear sister Emma Rose, who passed away recently. These resilient girls came to us after suffering horrible neglect, but responded beautifully to all the love and care they received at the rescue.

Maggie Rose is a happy, spirited lady, who would love to share her life with a kind, compassionate, gentle person. She suffered prior trauma to her lower back, which makes it difficult for her to walk much of a distance, but she does get around. She does not enjoy being on a leash, and all she needs is a little outdoor, safe spot to get sunshine and fresh air a few times a day. Maggie Rose gets along with other nice, gentle dogs, but she would be fine as the only dog in her new home. She receives eye drops for dry eye, and is not on any other medication. Someone pinch us! As soon as Domino’s photos were added to our website, our dear friends called us and said they were interested in meeting him! Here he is on the right in his dad’s arms 😊

This lovely couple has adopted from us twice before. First, they adopted our special Bigelow, and then the beautiful Amber Mae during Covid. When they lost Biggie some months back, it left a hole in their heart and home. And when they called us, they said they saw so much of Biggie in Domino’s photo.

In Biggie’s honor, they brought home another angel to spoil and love. Domino, you don’t know how lucky you are 🧡

Kirstie has been at the rescue way too long, most of her young life. She arrived as a puppy, and is now 1 year and 9 months old. She is a French Bulldog, now about 18 pounds. Kirstie didn’t always behave well with the other dogs, but is maturing nicely and this behavior has improved a great deal. For now, it would still be best for her to be the only dog in her new home, but, hopefully, this will change with more time.

Kirstie loves to be with people and is super fun and delightful to be with. She is energetic, silly and playful, but also cuddly and affectionate. She walks nicely on a leash and loves romping in the yard. Kirstie sure deserves a chance to experience life in a loving, stable home, where we believe she will thrive. Oh, Izzie... how we desperately want to find you a forever home...

Izzie’s story is even more tragic than the more common tale of a senior dog loosing their senior parent and ending up at the rescue. Izzie arrived here at the age of 11, part of a senior pair with his lovely brother Blue, who was 14. Izzie had a good chance of being adopted alone. However, Izzie and Blue loved each other and were very bonded, so we would not separate them, even though we knew their chances of being adopted were very slim due to Blue’s age. They spent two years together at the rescue, but Blue recently passed away. In addition, Izzie became blind from retinal detachments about one year ago.

Izzie is a very handsome Shih Tzu, about 13 years old and 16-17 pounds. He has adjusted to his vision loss incredibly well, and remains upbeat, friendly and spirited. He gets around well and enjoys walking in the yard. Izzie also likes petting and receiving attention. He has dry eye which is controlled with eye drops, and he goes to the vet for sedation for grooming. Otherwise he is well and strong. Izzie would do best with someone who is experienced, often home, and has a yard. It's National Dog Day, but it comes as no surprise to our supporters that every day is National Dog Day at Shih Tzu Rescue. We work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year because dog rescue work literally never sleeps...

By the end of the day today, the staff and volunteers at Shih Tzu Rescue will have:

1. Administered dozens of eye drops and other medications for our senior and special needs dogs
2. Prepared at least a hundred meals, some of which are speciality diets
3. Groomed the scruffiest of our residents
4. Processed applications!
5. Paid some of our never ending bills
6. Ordered new fans for the back runs
7. Driven dogs to veterinary appointments, and scheduled that many more
8. Cleaned our floors! And then cleaned some more!
9. Laundry…. Sigh
10. Walked dozens of babies
11. Answered phone call after phone call to our office
12. Made sure our angels had plenty of time in the yards before their naps
13. Updated our dog listings online and doggie descriptions to help get them homes!
14. And SO MUCH MORE!

Welcome to the world baby Peach! 🍑

Georgia and her newborn pup were rescued from a horrible breeding situation the day after Peach was born. They are an absolute dream team, and everything happy, healthy Shih Tzus can be. Georgia is a fantastic, very smart mother, who loves, cares for, and plays with her pup in the sweetest and gentlest way. She is very friendly and loves being with people and receiving all the love and affection she was denied for the first part of her life. Peach’s cuteness is off the charts. She is thriving and is as curious, sweet, and playful as you would expect from a young puppy.

Georgia is about 2 1/2 years old and 11-12 pounds. Peach was born on 7/9/24. At the time of writing this description, she is 7 weeks old and 2 pounds. We are keeping this mom/daughter pair together as they are close in age and truly love and delight in each other. Hey all you Bulldog lovers!

Hope cannot give or receive enough love and snuggles. She doesn’t care that she is a 42 pound English Bulldog, she just wants to cuddle up in your lap like a little pup, and give hugs and kisses. After being used to breed, likely multiple times, this wonderful girl is thrilled to receive kindness, attention, playtime, and go for walks. Although only about 2-3 years old, Hope has good manners, is well behaved, and gets along with other dogs. She has a fantastic, fun personality and is extremely sweet and friendly to all.
