The Cloverleaf Farm

We grow fruit. We sell it lots of places including the Arden Fair Farmers Market. Watch here for our U-Picks. Hi all, this is the Cloverleaf Farm!

The Cloverleaf has been in operation for over 10 years. The 4 acre organic fruit orchard is managed by Tree Kilpatrick and has apricots, peaches, nectarines and figs. We are trained in organic and sustainable agricultural practices and the farm will reflect that knowledge. No synthetic pesticides, herbicides or inorganic fertilizer will be used to grow our crops. Farm shots from last couple days. Lovely springtime weather in Davis. We started thinning fruit this week. (The little peaches are Zee Diamond). We’ve had some inquires about it, and the CSA subscriptions will open soon, but not quite yet. We will announce it here and on the website.

Farm shots from this morning. Wild radish weeds are living their # best life with all the rain. Trees look ok in our orchard. Some leaf curl and brown rot damage, but fair to good fruit set in most things. (Nectarine crop might be sparse). Fruit will be late though. Mid-June most likely for first stuff.

Hello CSA Supporters,

First off, thank you so much for the support over the years (and especially last year). Without your income we would be out of business after the loss of crop we suffered last year. I wanted to give you an update on the farm. We have had some more weather related issues this winter and spring, but the good news is that we will have fruit for a CSA again this year. It’s going to be a later ripening cycle like last year was, so we will not be starting your box deliveries until mid-June most likely. We should be ready to start taking sign-ups on our website around 4/15/24. I’m hopeful that we will have more spaces this year than last, and will also return to offering drop-off in Napa and Winters. We mostly depend on word-of-mouth to get the word out about the CSA, so if you have friends, co-workers, family and any other fruit lovers you think may be interested please pass the word. And finally we are also seeking farm crew for the coming season. If anybody comes to mind for the job, please tell them to send in a cover letter and resume. Thanks.

This is an important bill that directly affects us at The Cloverleaf Farm. Please contact your Representative and tell them to support the bill if you can spare the time. Thanks. Tree.

This week, farmers and advocates across the country are asking their legislators to support farmers’ access to credit by co-sponsoring the Fair Credit for Farmers Act. We need your support! Do you have two minutes to make a phone call to your legislators?

Using lessons learned from farmer financial crisis casework, RAFI, National Family Farm Coalition, and the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition are supporting lending reforms in a bill introduced by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Alma Adams. The Fair Credit for Farmers Act directly addresses many of the barriers farmers face as they attempt to access credit at the Farm Service Agency.

Credit is an essential tool for farmers to access land, yearly operating funds, and the ability to expand and grow their businesses. The Farm Service Agency (FSA) is an essential agricultural lender, a place farmers can go when other lenders deny them loans. All farmers deserve fair treatment at FSA, but unfortunately, they have not always gotten it. Farmers can encounter obstacles and delay as they seek loans, and they often have to put up their homes as collateral in order to have their loans approved. FSA staff have many discretionary tools at their disposal to deny and delay loan applications, which opens up the opportunity for discriminatory treatment as well.

The Fair Credit for Farmers Act will improve access and accountability in the FSA loan application and appeals processes. It seeks a fundamental shift in the dynamic between farmers and FSA to a relationship where farmers are protected and can become joint partners with FSA staff in seeking farm success. You can read a bill summary, check out RAFI’s blog post with some of the farmer stories that inspired this bill, and review the full bill at Congress.gov.

Ask your legislators to support farmers’ access to credit and co-sponsor the Fair Credit for Farmers Act! (Pssst: We encourage you to try out the calling function as the most powerful way to make an impact with your legislators!)

Farmers’ experiences at FSA - and their financial wellbeing - should not be dependent on the attitude of the person sitting in the county office. You, and Congress, can help!

And we have flowers. Finally. Just starting in the earliest nectarines and about to pop in the apricots. Let’s hope the weather cooperates more this year than last. You’all probably want fruit as badly as we do.

Found a tasty peach in the orchard. Last one most likely of 2023. Here’s to a comeback next year.

Pretty windfall Trazee peach marks the end of the stonefruit season. Man, 2023 was a rough one, but trees look ready to make a nice recovery next year. Hoping the timing of our rain and frost cooperates… (and we still have figs, lots & lots of figs).

It’s fig time. No dragonfly in the baskets we send out though. They are just kinda sleepy in the early morning hours.

Had to look hard, but I found 2 full sized perfect O’Henry peaches. Usually there are too many to handle. Hopeful that they come roaring back next year. Now it’s time to have one of these for breakfast.

Our Story

Hi all, this is the Cloverleaf Farm! This is the eighth year of the Cloverleaf. The 10 acre organic fruit orchard and farm is co-managed by Emma Torbert, Katie Fyhrie and Kaitlin Oki and has apricots, peaches, nectarines, figs, strawberries, melons, blackberries, and lots of vegetables.

Emma, Katie and Kaitlin are trained in organic and sustainable agricultural practices and the farm will reflect that knowledge. No synthetic pesticides, herbicides or inorganic fertilizer will be used to grow our crops.

The Cloverleaf Farmstand is located off I-80 at the Kidwell Rd. exit (*going west it is on the right side of the highway). If you are on your way to Tahoe, Sacramento, San Fransisco, Oakland, Marin or even Oregon jump off the highway and come say hi!

Meet your farmers:

Emma began farming in the cold bluster of NH and has discovered that California weather produces tasty fruit. She has farmed all over this country (&world!) including PA, WA, NH, Chile, Ecuador, and CA. She got her masters in Horticulture from UCD and currently works for the Agricultural Sustainability Institute. Her dream is to have a co-housing farm someday, and loves all vegetables, compost, and goats!

Katie: Katie is a beginning farmer who got her start right here in Davis at Impossible Acres. She fell into farming after graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in Integrative Biology by following her love of plants, sunshine, and digging in the dirt—and couldn't be happier about it! In addition to working at the Cloverleaf, she is also a student at the California Farm Academy at the Center for Land Based Learning in Winters.
