Clients that have hard/ well water that are ALSO extension/ blonding clients can sometimes be the biggest challenge!! I’m going to be discussing how I matched her hair to the extensions without the need to lighten or overtone her ends in my subscription (liNk iN BiO🤪).

3 things I ALWAYS cover in consultations and why!⬇️

🌟 What their long term financial commitment will look like! It’s not just the initial appointment we need to be discussing. Unlike haircolor where you could wait as long as you wanted in between appointments without damage… extensions require time and $ dedication.

🌟 The consequences if the client doesn’t follow the recommended at home care instructions AND if they don’t follow the recommended schedule. Clear is kind. Communication is everything.

🌟 My goals for their long term hair journey. I will explain things like… after 6 months we can remove this nape row when your hair grows a bit more. Or “as your hair gets healthier with less heat styling and lightening, we can take you lighter.” Explain why you’re doing what you’re doing now and what is possible in the future.

I swear if there’s ever some sort of a communication issue with a client, 9 times out of 10 it’s because you overlooked something in the conversation!! I hand my clients written cards with all of this information so it’s double communicated🙏🏻

Longer and blonder isn’t always better‼️ I love that people are beginning to lean into what works for them and their features… not someone else’s. Also loving that people are valuing healthy, bouncy, full hair instead of risking it all to be blonde lol. (There’s obviously responsible and irresponsible ways to use bleach but no matter what it’s going to cause damage)

For Carolina we did 1 row of 20” for fullness, added layers, and did a gloss to bring her natural color back🌸

Dis my momma🥺 blessed that she always lets me experiment on her😂 this time we tried some mesh under her beading. The goal with the mesh is to provide some extra support to sew onto instead of relying solely on the natural hair for the foundation. I already know what I want to tweak for next time and I’m really hoping we can start implementing this service for my super fine haired guests!! I’m getting really interested in the hair loss world and I want to focus on providing solutions for these guests🙏🏻

Really just wanted to brag on this team of amazing inspiring women I have surrounding me😭🩷 Each of them chose to join me in a business class today, and chose to make time to better themselves.

I never realized what I was missing out on before I had this, but I did know something was missing.

I am hard on each of them (and myself) but that was the vision I had when I wanted to open a salon. I wanted to curate a group that was looking for support and guidance in their journey. This industry can provide such a beautiful life and it’s so fu***ng cool to watch them take advantage of it.

Sometimes I want to hold back or pull away in fear that I’m “too much” but I remember that this is what makes me unique as a leader. This is what Dayton was lacking and I fought hard for this.

It’s easy to find a salon where there’s loose rules and boundaries. Where fear of tough love or hurting feelings prevents growth. Where you all just kind of tolerate one another when you go to work.

What’s hard to find is a salon environment that holds you accountable and pushes you to be better than you were yesterday. A salon environment where we all have a close bond and all get along. An environment where we all understand that each of our actions affect one another and the salon reputation.

I’m so thankful my girls value this and moments like this really fill me with so much gratitude🙏🏻

Today we did Gabrielle’s maintenance appointment- full highlight + 2 row restitch 🩵 we alternate this with a move up+ partial highlight every 5-6 weeks! This is what the majority of my blonde clients maintenance looks like

Every method has their time and place- and each stylist has strengths and weaknesses. Also everyone’s focus and specialties are different. Do I believe tape ins are inherently bad for everyone? No. Do I enjoy doing them or think they can be utilized and customized like wefts can? Also no lol.

I’m so thankful we were able to customize her install to better match her density!! She couldn't stop commenting on how much lighter they felt 🙏🏻

Whenever I take guests that need an extension correction I do explain that my abilities are limited when we are working with wefts that I didn’t pick! For this guest I wouldn’t have chose a volume weft, I wouldn’t have chose this color, and I wouldn’t have chose the length and grams she has installed.

I think it’s important to explain what’s possible with their current situation and make a game plan for the next set of extensions.

A lot of us are taught to not touch hair we didn’t install BUT I do think as long as there’s open communication and everyone is comfortable moving forward- do it! If a client has unrealistic expectations and isn’t trusting of your professional opinion IN GENERAL I wouldn’t be moving forward with the service👏🏻 but a lot of clients just don’t know what they don’t know, you have to explain things to them and teach them! Show your knowledge ✨

This is such a good alternative for those who want the luxury of extensions that don’t want the maintenance OR if you can’t justify having them in all the time. A lot of my clip in clients are stay at home moms or work from home and only want to wear them for special occasions!🩷

One thing about me is imma tell y’all the truth

I got certified with my first certification in 2019. I started focusing only on extensions in 2020. I’ve been through 6 other trainings since to make sure I wasn’t missing something… I can confidently say now (after a billion hours of experience and a billion dollars in education) that I’ve solved just about every issue I’ve had with my installs. Lifting corners, hair longevity, tension etc.

But I share this to show stylists that it’s not YOU. Extensions are an imperfect system! They are finicky and fu***ng hard to figure out.

I explain this to show clients why extensions are an investment. It’s not as easy as taking a class and knowing how to do it. When you’re choosing your stylist the price reflects years of dedication and experience (I hope)🩷

Aside from the blend- comfort and flexibility are going to be your main concerns. Not only does it matter how they LOOK but how they FEEL.

The majority of women that get extensions have fine fragile hair and can’t afford to experience damage. This is why choosing a stylist that focuses on scalp and hair health is so important.

Extensions require so much time and dedication to master. They are frustrating and require so much attention to detail🩷
