“Nurses Make a Difference: Anytime, Anywhere – Always”
David Ramshaw, MD, FACS is a Board Certified General Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Ramshaw is a native Floridian who graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine, and completed his surgical residency in Wilmington, North Carolina at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He moved to Daytona Beach in 1996 where he began his practice in surgery with Surgical Associates of Volusia, now North Florida Surgeons, Volusia Division. He is an active faculty member for the FSU College of Medicine. He is comfortable and confident performing a broad variety of general surgical procedures of all the organs in the abdomen.
Dr. Ramshaw is the Medical Director for the Daytona Reflux Center, a part of North Florida Surgeons. He was the first surgeon in the area to implant LINX, magnetic sphincter augmentation device. The LINX® System is a small, flexible band of magnets enclosed in titanium beads. The beads are connected by titanium wires. The magnetic attraction between the beads helps keep the weak LES (lower esophageal sphincter) closed to prevent reflux. Swallowing forces temporarily break the magnetic bond, allowing food and liquid to pass into the stomach. Magnetic attraction closes the LES after swallowing, to reinforce the body’s natural barrier to reflux. The LINX is implanted to augment the lower esophageal sphincter in patients who have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Stopping GERD can prevent esophageal cancer. In addition to the LINX, Dr. Ramshaw also offers Nissen fundoplication, and Toupet (partial) fundoplication.
At the Daytona Reflux Center, NFS, we have 4 additional surgeons who also perform anti-reflux procedures:
Dr. Joseph Bianchi
Dr. Mark White
Dr. Lars Nelson
Dr. Michael Fabian (fundoplication only)

April is esophageal cancer awareness month.
Did you know that GERD/acid reflux is a risk factor for esophageal cancer? Over time, stomach acids can damage cells in the esophagus, sometimes leading to a condition called Barrett’s esophagus. This is considered a precancerous condition, or a potential precursor to cancer.
Daytona Reflux Center, a part of North Florida Surgeons, uses an advanced approach toaccurately diagnose and treat typical and atypical patients who suffer fromAcid Reflux and Gastro-Esophageal-Reflux Disease (GERD).
Meet Tracy Anderson, our clinical care coordinator. She would love to help you get started on your journey towards an acid reflux free life. Call today if you’re ready to get started 386-274-GERD(4373).
