The simple explanation for this picture is that you are looking at a See Stop Do safety briefing at our Wildwood terminal; however, there is SOOO much more that can be said about this picture.
Personnel from our CYD locations across the region came out to participate in See Stop Do visits this week. During these visits, the attention is on safety and the safe operations of our facilities. Individuals in different positions from different locations all gather to inspect the facilities for improvements, share safety practices, learn from each other, and provide support.
Functions such as this help CYD build their safety culture. They take safety a step further than a practice and make it a mindset, which is exhibited by the intentional care and support provided to employees. In this picture from this SSD visit, you see most of the 27 people out at the terminal today, and the longevity that these people can claim are an indisputable testament to the strong culture at CYD. At this meeting: one employee has been with CRH for 33 years, three for 21-30 years, six for 11-20 years, six for 6-10 years, six for 1-5 years and five have been here for under a year.
You can identify the five employees who have been here for less than a year because they are wearing a green hardhat. This signals to the rest of the crew that they could benefit from a little extra guidance, and they are in the right place to get that when you consider the wealth of experience that combines at this company. Thank you, All, for everything you do!
HAPPY WORK ANNIVERSARY to James Sharkey, our Vice President of Sales!

Check out these shots of a brand new pool placed by our teams this week!
This 4,989 square foot pool is at Prosperity Lakes in Parrish, Fl and is being constructed by Fountain Pools. Preferred Materials Concrete placed 140 yards of 4000psi concrete, and West Coast Prestige Gunite finished the rest with 120 yards of 4000psi gunite. The materials for our gunite and concrete mixes contained sand and rock from Conrad Yelvington.
This team effort from all three companies of the Preferred Materials Region is a perfect example of how a vertically integrated company can deliver a spectacular, solid structure. When it comes to commercial work, there is no substitute for using the best in the business!

Got a Thursday thirst for some railroad facts?
Here’s a cool little post about one of the first locomotives in the U.S.!
(revolutionary concept to change the world)
The “John Bull” was a locomotive built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in England and was among the first to be used in the United States. It was built in 1831, initially as a 0-4-0 and was shipped disassembled to New Jersey. There it was reassembled by the Camden & Amboy and named “John Bull”, which was a personification of England. Since only horses were used in the construction of the railroad, the locomotive was not used until 1833, after it opened.
It initially had no cab and the tender was a home-made design that used a whiskey barrel as a water tank. After it derailed several times on the cheaper laid American tracks, a leading axle including a cow catcher was added, which gave it its well-known, distinctive appearance. The coupling rods were removed, meaning only the last axle was powered. Later it received a real tender and then a cab.
Its active service with the Camden & Amboy lasted until 1866. After the PRR purchased the C&A in 1871, it was restored and used for various public demonstrations. It came into the possession of the Smithsonian in 1884 and was not moved for a long time. After the PRR had a working replica built in 1939, the original was moved again under its own power in 1981 for its 150th birthday, making it the oldest operational locomotive in the world.
The photo shows it after being rebuild with the leading axle in comparison to a drawing of its original appearance.
