You may not be aware that today (Aug. 7) is Purple Heart Day. This is a day to honor those wounded or killed in action while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
There have been about 1.8 million Purple Hearts awarded since 1782, and I know many of them are right here in Volusia County.
This is also a good time to recognize the programs offered by the Florida Military Order of the Purple Heart, from financial assistance for veterans, to su***de prevention, to youth outreach and scholarships. What an incredible way to honor the sacrifices of our armed forces!
